InactiveHi. Carson was put on Erythromycin and I have noticed a wonderful improvement in his sleeping. I am not kidding. I could tell he was refluxing during the night and when dear doc wouldn’t up the PPI, we opted for Erythromycin and I think this may be our ticket to good nights!! Last night Carson was up ONCE for the past two nights. That is a true miracle for him.
My question is: Carson is on .8cc three x a day. Does the Erythromycin “work” only when it is given (at that specific time when it is in his body) OR does it then become something that the body does ALL THE TIME? So, will his stomach start to empty sooner ALL THE TIME or just during the 3 x that I give the medicine? This will help me decide when to give the meds.
BYW Carson was put through a battery of tests last year and one was an upper GI with lower bowel follow through – no signs of DGE. However, our doc said to try ERYTH and we may just love it. So far so good.August 12, 2007 at 2:44 pm #40921Anonymous
InactiveBrenda,
Glad to hear the erythromycin is doing the trick! Hope it continues to help. BTW, we were told that you can’t really diagnose DGE from the upper GI with small bowel follow through and that you really need to do a gastric emptying study. Maybe Carson really does have DGE and that’s why it’s helping.Sorry I don’t know the answer about the meds, though.August 12, 2007 at 8:22 pm #40950Anonymous
InactiveInteresting about the gastric emptying study……. I posted on another site and hope to get someone who is giving this to their child. If not, I will continue what I am doing and learn by trial/error. Maybe it is just as easy as three times a day and that does the trick for the whole day – as a PPI works. I hope so! I don’t know if this is coincidental or not, but Carson has eaten a ton today also. If that continues, I will post to those with feeding aversions – just maybe, this empties the stomach and makes the child feel hungry also?? Boy, THAT would be nice!

InactiveMay i ask what concentration you have?
we also use ero an it seems to help. she is on a 225/5ml and she takes 2.5ml 3 times a day. i give to her 30 minutes before she eats. we used to have 4-5 times a day puking down to 0 to 1-2 on some days. i think she is puking b/c of her ear inefctions, bugger nose and antibitoic she has been on lately plus other stuff. We had the emptying scan done and it was positive for very delayed emptying. Kendra doesn’t seem hungrier, but again we are dealing with other stuff rigth now.hope it continues to help.August 12, 2007 at 10:27 pm #40958Anonymous
InactiveSorry, I don’t have experience with erythromycin myself, but I believe I read somewhere that Heather (Bryce’sMom) had used this and found it to work well. Perhaps she will notice this thread and post, or you could PM her. She may me able to tell you what worked best for her little guy.

InactiveCarson’s ERTH is 400 mg/5ml.
Last night wasn’t wonderful at all but we had spagheti and I used Hunts but it was Hunts with meat. I didn’t realize this until I sat down and had a bite. By that time, Carson had several bites, and the Hunts with meat has SOY PROTEIN. Ugh. So, I am kicking myself right now and hope this soy gets out of his system soon. Boy, it is one thing after another, isn’t it? I am usually so careful – not sure how that even got in my cupboard?!?!If this works (I’ll have to give it a week or so now since we had the soy), I think I will post to tell the moms of older kids that this may work for them also.August 13, 2007 at 12:18 pm #40989Anonymous
InactiveLeo: Carson is on Prilosec, so I usually give that 30 minutes before he eats, so I have been giving the Erythro WITH the food. It igets tricky with several meds and timing. Do you give your Prevacid and Erythro at the same time?

InactiveHi Brenda,
Sorry I’m just seeing this now, we’ve been on vacation. I’m so glad to hear the Erythromycin is helping Carson!
Bryce is also on Erythromycin and it has helped him tremendously. We also give it three times per day, and I believe the medicine works until the next dose. We give Bryce 0.7 (3x) of the 400/5ml concentration. We give it to him at the same time as his prevacid. Good luck! I hope it continues to help him.

InactiveThanks! So nice to hear others are on this also. I don’t think we are out of the woods with the Soy Protein that he ate in the spaghetti – but I am thinking the next few days should be better and then I will get a good read on the Erythro. He is eating more when he sits down to eat. I could still kick myself with the soy in the spaghetti sauce = will be glad when that is over. I was also thinking the Erythro worked until the next dose as I noticed when he does vomit sometimes he gags and doesn’t actually vomit anything up = which NEVER happened before – it seemed that he vomited things that were given HOURS before, so I see hope in this! His nights have stunk but I think again due to the soy so will up date in a few days. If this works, maybe many of the older kids would benefit from this also.

InactiveThis is clearly working. I think this would be beneficial for older kids who have no appetite. It is a very low dose antibiotic – very few side effects. Would be worth a try. So sorry I didn’t ask for this sooner. Although, part of me is MAD that I have to be the one to research and suggest meds/treatments.
