InactiveSurprisingly I’m not upset about this. Sarah has had a rough couple of days and exhibited a lot of temper tantrums. DH kept suggesting to put her back on meds…and today I caved in. We’re back to her night dose. I guess I’ll know in a few days/week if she “improves” that it was reflux. If not maybe I’ll feel brave enough to try to wean again in a month or so. I think I’m OK with it because being able to drop to one dose in the first place was a big accomplishment. So, if we have to stay at one dose instead of three and she’s not quite ready to be med free…I’m OK with that.
It’s just SOOO hard to decipher all of her symptoms (as it is for all of us!
) The last time she was unmedicated and miserable she was only 4 months old. She’s changed a lot developmentally so expecting her to “cry inconsolably” like she used to might have been replaced with a short temper and lots of frustration and crying outbursts now that she’s older??? (and possibly a short or non-existent afternoon nap lately might have been a symptom too?)Regardless, we’re going to try giving back her night dose (which is only 12mg to the best of my calculations) and go from there. Just wanted to update everyone! Even though we might not be ready to get OFF the reflux roller coaster at least it’s more of a pleasant ride at this point.

(For reference, she was med free for 6 days before we decided that it might not be working.)

InactiveGoodluck.
I know it really took a couple of weeks of meds for me to feel sure Alana would do OK without them. During this time she did occasionally have reflux episodes. It really took her another 2 weeks on top of this to exhibit no symptoms. I know thats a long time to wait it out though.August 13, 2007 at 10:51 am #40977Anonymous
InactiveI’m sorry to hear that
but happy to hear that you are not terribly upset about it. It really is hard to decipher things. When I weaned Myles I had a few moments when I thought I needed to put him back on meds and it was an entire month before I was sure. Until they are really talking it’s so hard. He’s sick now and I wish he could tell me what’s bothering him.
Good luck and keep us posted. I love her new picture!August 14, 2007 at 8:06 am #41019Anonymous
InactiveI know how you feel. I still have no clue what’s due to her reflux, and what’s due to habit/behaviour. I hope that whatever it is, she’ll be ready to wean soon.

InactiveGrr.. I just lost my post… anyway, basically it said that I’m sorry to hear about this, but just wanted to support your decision and say that she is surely very close to being able to drop the meds altogether. She’s drinking milk and down to one dose! Can’t wait for that day myself.
Her picture is ADORABLE!!!
