InactiveIs it true that if you cut your child’s hair it will grow in better? I think in general I have always heard this is a MYTH…but I’ve had more and more people telling me to get Sarah’s haircut. See, it’s starting to grow into a mullet!! The back is getting long and stringy but the top isn’t catching up. It’s almost like the top is getting THICKER, but the back is just growing LONGER. Eeee! I hate to cut off her little curls, but it’s getting pretty unmanageable and doesn’t look very pretty.
What happened after your child’s first haircut?

InactiveColt’s hair grew back in a little thicker. The only thing is that now at 2 1/2 you can’t cut his hair because he is so scared. This might be the first time you will be able to cut her hair because she may become afraid. The myth I heard was getting their hair cut causes it to grow in thicker.

InactiveOh i thought it causes the hair to grow in faster! I think that is true in Shanes case.. His back of his head was growing faster then the top as well.. so i kept trimming the back myself! But it kept growing sooo fast! So i just kept trimming it! 😉 But now its pretty even.
I dont think its much thicker though..Post new pics if you cut it! 🙂August 15, 2007 at 6:24 am #41093Anonymous
InactiveAlana has very thick hair already, but it has seemed to get thicker the couple of times we got it cut. She also has curls and they are mainly at the back so it is sad to cut them!

InactiveMy children’s hair cutter told me that it helps to cut the baby hair once it gets that thin and stringy look in back. It’s not that cutting it makes it grow faster or thicker, but that cutting it gets rid of the split ends. Baby hair is very thin and it splits easily, so when you let it get too long all the ends begin to split and that makes it look thin and messy looking. A good trim might make it look thicker. It’s hard to get that first haircut, but it really does make the hair look nicer.

InactiveKaelyn had a mullet too! Cutting it made very little difference in thickness though. Of course, she is cursed with my thin, baby fine hair so I doubt that anything would help.

InactiveWe are fast approaching the mullet stage too! What I did with Claire was to cut it during her bath!! It was nice and wet and plastered to her back, so I just grouped it all together and snip snip cut it off. She didn’t even know what was going on because she was playing with her toys! I had to do this a few times before it evened out.

InactiveHmmm, I wonder if I could just cut it myself? I scheduled an appointment for both of us on Friday but the only available time was 2:30. That’s pretty much guaranteed nap time. My mom will be here to stay with her if she’s not awake and I can still go get my hair cut. I just always thought her FIRST cut should be fancy at the hair salon. Maybe not? I’d be fine cutting it myself and just saving the locks for her baby book. I’ll be so afraid to make it worse though!!!
Either way, I’ll post pics after the cut. August 15, 2007 at 10:07 pm #41172Anonymous
Inactivethickness is determined at the scalp—–so there is no way that cutting hair is going to make it thicker. like christine said—-it’s getting rid of those split baby hairs and evening it out that makes it look thicker.
i always thought it made my kids look so much older the first time i cut their bangs.sylvia won’t sit still for me to cut her bangs, so i am just letting them grow out. they are in her eyes all the time—-she doesn’t sit well for fixing her hair either. she kind of looks like little orphan annie alot of the time—-bangs in her eyes, dirty face, dirty shirt, and half of her clothes missing.she is too much of a free spirit to be bothered with clothes—–and getting her face wiped and her hair combed—-and when i was younger i would have sworn i would never let my child look like this!!LOL!!!we do try to improve the look a little when we go out in public.kevieb2007-08-15 22:13:56
