InactiveUgh…where did my happy baby go??? Sarah was doing FANTASTIC on her wean from zegerid. She was down to one dose and had been a great, happy normal baby for three weeks. I felt confident enough to finally drop the last dose. As I posted earlier in the week, after several days she started acting crabby and throwing a lot of temper tantrums so last Sunday night we gave her back her night dose. Things STILL aren’t better. It’s been 5 days since she went back. How long will it take before the medicine starts working again? Did I TOTALLY screw things up and now she needs to go back to TWO doses a day?
She is acting like she is teething but even in her worst teething time, it only has lasted THREE days max…then the tooth pops through and we’re happy again. We don’t have a tooth yet, or even the signs of one really so I’m starting to freak out about reflux or teeth…reflux or teeth…UGH!!!!
What do I do? Go back to two doses of zegerid? Continue to give the max dose of motrin, gaviscon, pepcid complete, tums, you name it??? HELP!!!!!

InactiveUgh, I am so sorry. Though we are nowhere near a wean, I understand the sentiment. We started trialing Gabby on whole milk recently. Now she’s a non-sleeping, constantly pooping, barfing baby. Problem is that I had the stomach flu earlier this week and it could be that she’s got the bug too. She was eating so well on the whole milk because I think it tasted a lot better than her formula. But I have no idea where to go from here either. Good luck. I’d try to stick it out, but I’m only on my seventh day of milk and I’m ready to throw in the towel. Easier said than done, I suppose.

InactiveCould it be the eye teeth or molars or a big tooth? Can you hear her refluxing or is it more the irritable behaviour? Gee I hope you can work it out soon, for both your sakes.

InactiveOh, Amy, how frustrating! Maybe it isn’t reflux, and her teeth are just really bothering her. I know some teeth are more uncomfortable for them than others. I hope that is all it is. Please keep us posted.

InactiveShe is also 16 months old now. Is she fussy because she appears to be in pain, or throwing tantrums because she is exerting her independence? i remember this being a turning point for Dylan as far as just seeing how far he could get with tantrums, and we are beginning to see it with Carter. Just wonder if some of the behavior is developmentally appropriate?
Hang in there! these ages are so hard when they can’t just tell us what is wrong…..August 17, 2007 at 9:56 am #41270Anonymous
InactiveAmy,
Is she eating and sleeping well? If so I’d be willing to be it’s not reflux that’s bothering her. Some teeth do hurt more than others when they come in. The eye teeth (canines) were particularily bad for my babies, as were the molars. Two of my babies were super crabby, I mean just plain miserable, when they were teething. It was so bad with Liza and Myles that I actually would get a visceral reaction when I noticed that they were teething again. It was that bad.Is she any better when you give her Motrin or Tylenol?Could it be her ears?I hope you figure it out soon. I know it must be very frustrating and discouraging.Kathy,I hope Gabby is feeling better soon. One way of knowing whether it’s a stomach bug versus a milk intolerance is that stomach viruses usually cause really foul smelling stools. Many docs recommend stopping milk even for non MSPI children when they have a stomach virus because milk can make things worse even in children who are not intolerant. I’m not sure what I’d do in your shoes, but that’s something to consider.August 17, 2007 at 11:21 am #41279Anonymous
InactiveAmy,
I’m sorry Sarah’s having a hard time now.
I was going to suggest what some others said, that it might be one of the bigger teeth like eye-teeth or molars. Bryce has been horrible with his eye teeth and molars. And unfortunately they take much longer to come in. Have you tried giving her some ibuprofen or tylenol to see if it makes a difference? I hope you can get things figured out and I really hope it’s not reflux!August 17, 2007 at 12:27 pm #41282Anonymous
InactiveOh no! I’m sorry that she’s having such a hard time. Sometimes it’s so hard to know what to do and to figure things out. Has she been eating any new foods? Maybe it’s an intolerance issue.

InactiveOh yuck Amy
I’m so so sorry you guys are feeling like your going backwards. I have no experience with teeth(so far….they’re coming!!!
)but I hope things get better soon for Sarah…and for you!!! Here’s a big hug, I’m sure it’ll get better and those stupid teeth will have the courage to show themselves or the meds will kick in.

InactiveAmy. Did she just recently get her immunizations for 15 months? If so, did she get the MMR vaccine? I thought of this the other day when I read your earlier post. Claire really reacted to this vaccine, and the main reaction was about 10-14 days after the shot was given. Just a thought…

InactiveThanks everyone!! If she IS teething, it would be the eye teeth or molars and I’ve heard they can be rough. 7 out of 8 teeth Sarah has have been MISERABLE! I can only imagine how rough the next ones will be.
I have given her 1/2 tablet of pepcid complete the past two mornings and she has been FANTASTIC! A HUGE change from what I saw last week. I don’t know if I should chalk it up to that, or maybe the zegerid has finally kicked in again. I am NOT going to give her pepcid tomorrow and we’ll see how it goes. I was hoping I’d feel in her mouth today and find a tooth erupted, but no such luck. So that leads me back to reflux…hopefully with the zegerid we can get things back on track…and now with pepcid complete we MIGHT be good to go. This is all soooooooooooooooooooo frustrating!!! Thank you all so much for your support and advice. I’m hoping we’re finally heading BACK to Happy-Land.

InactiveTaylor was absolutely miserable for about 1 1/2 – 2 weeks, very cranky and night waking with crying episodes and a lot more tossing and turning in her sleep. I wasn’t sure what it was, but sure enough after the long period she popped out 3 molars. Typically her teething is only a few days of the miserable night crying/sleeping then she gets a tooth but not this past time. She’s the same age as Sarah, so it is possible that Sarah might be popping out those molars as well!

InactiveOh, you have been given a lot of advice! I am just going to say that I am sorry you are going through this. Just when you thought things were so much better and now this. It is so hard. Keep a journal with the things you are trying. It can take a few days for things to get better so it is so hard to tell WHAT is working. Big hugs!
