InactiveWho here is dealing with it??
I have the silent reflux under control with prevacid, but who is dealing with both???How long do your kids go betwen feedings due to their DGE???Will a child outgrow DGE????Has your child ever outgrown it???How did you know???August 19, 2007 at 5:49 pm #41388Anonymous
InactiveMy son had DGE and reflux. His pain was controlled by Prevacid, but DGE continued to be a problem until he outgrew it at 13 months.
As for feedings, he would have gone 5-6 hours without eating, but I used to feed him small portions more often. At 8 months he was eating 4-5 times per day but he only averaged 15-16 ounces of breast milk or formula a day, plus some oatmeal cereal and about two stage one jars of baby food. His weight gain was fine. I really think that babies with DGE absorbmore nutrients from their food than non DGE babies because the food takes so much longer to pass through, and that’s why they get by on much less than average babies.
I knew he had outgrown it because his stomach capacity began to increase dramatically and he began eating much larger portions at meal time. Also his chronic consitpation subsided.August 19, 2007 at 6:48 pm #41393Anonymous
InactiveMy son has both reflux and DGE. Bryce has a feeding tube so it’s hard to tell how long he’ll go before getting hungry. Once when he had to have surgery he went 13 hours without food and didn’t even cry. It was crazy. I do know without his Erythromycin has been known to vomit up a huge amount like 3 hours after he ate it.
Bryce is 20 mo. old and has still not outgrown the reflux or DGE. (I hope he will soon!)

InactiveThank you both for your help,
My daughter sounds like your child, Christine,. She’ll go 5 hrs and never ask for food, but with erythro, she’ll go every 4 hrs and because she’s on prevacid is now willing to eat more often….

InactiveThat’s encouraging that she’s eating more with the Prevacid and Erythromycin. Hopefully she’ll outgrow both conditions soon. I remember how hard it was to worry about every ounce Myles ate or didn’t eat. Myles never asked to eat either. I just fed him to keep him alive.
I hope your daugter outgrows it soon.August 21, 2007 at 4:19 pm #41491Anonymous
InactiveErythromycin is wonderful for us as well. Carso is 22 pounds and gets .8ml three times per day. I really only give it to him around noon and then at 7-8pm and it works wonders. Maybe ask if you should up the Erythro ??
