Help! I decided to FINALLY try backing off Ben’s Zegerid on Monday. He takes an enormous amount each day (48 mgs.). I only backed the afternoon dose down by 8 mgs. (half his normal dose). Well, that day, he had trouble going down for his nap… this is not totally unusual, but a bit troubling as he hasn’t had trouble for quite awhile now. He was also starting to do this throat clearing scream.. I’m not quite sure how to describe it.. we call it the pterydactyl! Again, he has made this noise before, so not something totally new.
Yesterday, more of the same.. he was a bit fussier too, but I still wasn’t sure if it was the reflux. I mean it was only 8 mgs!!!
Last night was HORRIBLE. He hasn’t slept so badly in a long time. He woke up in the first 45 minutes, again an hour later.. he slept fine then until about 4 and it was up and down again every 40 minutes or so. After I finally went in at 6:15, he slept fine until 8:30.
I would be jumping to put him back on the missing Zegerid EXCEPT for the fact, that when he woke up each time last night, he was really stuffy. He has been sneezing alot too, and his nose is a little runny this morning as well. Claire has also mentioned that her throat was scratchy.. which if Ben’s has been scratchy the last couple days, that could explain his behavior…
What would you do? Up his meds back and try again later? Wait a bit to see if it’s a cold?
