InactiveCooper’s sleep seems to be gettingn worse over the last few days. He used to be able to make it from 8p-3 or 4a without needing to be fed,but in the last few weeks we have been having to feed him at 2a and sometimes earlier… which means 8oz so that he can make it until 7am without eating again. His routine did get out of whack last week when we were out of town, but he slept better at night then than he is now. The last 2 nights he has been up from about 12:30a until 2:30a with dh feeding him around 1:30 or 2…. He is now taking 42 oz of formula/day and 1.5 jars of stage 1 baby food/day. I am going to introduce oatmeal cereal tomorrow so he will be getting cereal and 2 jars of baby food/day along with his formula. He has recently learned how to go from his belly to sitting up and has started doing that in his crib when we try to put him down at night. Is this new ability causing him to not be able to sleep? He is a very active/alert/interested little boy so it wouldn’t surprise me if that were the case. Last night he went down at 9p I started trying at 8p and then he was up at 11, 12, 1 and then dh got him back to sleep sometime b/t 2:30 and 3 and he woke up for the day at 6a… Help please.

InactiveI feel for you Beth. Our son is almost 11 months old now. He is on Prevacid Solutabs 30 mg. a day and we recently added 1.2 ml Reglan before bed in hopes of better sleep. Our son sleeps well from 8 – midnight and is then up “thrashing about” until about 5 am and sleeps again until 6 am.. The ped. gi says this may improve when he turns one, meds. are not helping our sleep issues. I don’t tell you this to discourage you, I thought knowing you are not alone might help. Hang in there, it has to get better right???

InactivePossibilities- yes to the “I/m learning something new, I don’t want to sleep”…? teeth somewhere….?any chance of that blasted ear infection monkey….? hungry because of increased activitity level and growth. If he is tolerating foods OK I would probably up them. I know with Alana we went from a few mouthfuls to three meals pretty quickly and by 8 months she was having three meals and two snacks.

InactiveOh Beth, I’m so sorry sleep is so yucky right now. I have no exciting suggestions b/c I’m flying by the seat of my pants with Kate and her own nap horror but I hope things get better. I hope these new skills and trouble it possibly causes with sleep isn’t what I have to look forward too!! If it helps, I’m up when you’re up so I’ll be thinking of you and sending Cooper lots of sleepy vibes

InactiveThanks Ladies,
Therese, Alana’s new pic is adorable. He did better on Thursday night I was only up 5 times, 4 of which were a pop in the paci and go. Only had to rock him 1 time and that was after his bottle. Last night wasn’t horrible, but after he slept from 8p-11:30p I was up I can’t count how many times until 1:30a and then I think we had a good stretch and then I fed him at 2:30a. He is now taking 2 jars of stage 1 baby foods and about 2 Tbsp of Oatmeal cereal/day with his formula… I just don’t know if he will sleep well until he is older… I guess I will just have to learn to nap when he naps, I am not good at that at all.September 1, 2007 at 2:45 pm #42020Anonymous
InactiveBrian is now almost 4 months old and we had been going through the same thing a few weeks ago. We were constantly going in and popping in a paci or picking him up and patting him but he kept waking up more frequently. Finally I decided that maybe the paci and the patting were hurting instead of helping. My son is on 22.5 mg of Prevacid and Carafate twice a day and he is fine now during the day (knock on wood) so I was pretty sure it wasn’t reflux. He also sleeps on the AR pillow (similar to Tucker sling) in his crib so I know he is upright enough. I recently decided to just put him in his crib awake when it was time for bed and let him learn how to get to sleep on his own. He cried for a few minutes for a few days but nothing too bad. Now he falls asleep easily on his own at nighttime (again, knock on wood). Once I was sure he could fall asleep on his own, we started letting him cry it out when he woke up outside of his normal middle of the night feeding time ( which is anywhere from 2-4am). Again, he didn’t cry for too long, maybe 15 minutes max and then he put himself back to sleep. Now he sleeps through from 8:00pm til about 2:00 or 3:00am, has a feeding of 6 oz and goes back to sleep an hour later and sleeps til at least 7:00am. We are all happier and better rested. Again, it hasn’t been long enough to say that this will last but for us so far this has worked and I feel much more confident at night knowing he is not dependent on us or the paci to fall asleep or get back to sleep. I know some people are philosophically opposed to CIO or any kind of “sleep training” and I respect that but it is working for us and did with our older son as well who is now 3 1/2 and still sleeps from 8:00pm til 7:30am and only occasionally wakes up crying at night if he has a bad dream. I also really like and use the book “Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child”. Good luck!
