Prevacid with caracream was working great for us for 3 wks, now yesterday and today, major arching and turning away from food. She is on a high dose of prevacid 36-40 mg.

Can a baby build resistance to a PPI???????

Anyhow, I am putting her on zegerid, 40 mg starting tomorrow……

If that doesn’t work, what other choices do I have???

Is there anything stronger than prevacid and zegerid????

Wow, I totally sympathize with your frustration. Meds and all the guessing and trial and error surrounding them is enough to drive you crazy, and that’s not even the worst of reflux!! Have you tried the solutabs? I’m not sure if that would make any difference, REALLY not an expert here. I hope someone else has some ideas and I HOPE you find a med that will work consisently. We were on the solutabs for two months with no improvement on a high dose too but Zegerid was the real turning point for us. I’ll be thinking of you guys!!

Goodluck with the Zegerid. There have been a few post in my time that have related to nexium….maybe that will be behind door number three? That being said, could there be another factor making her reflux flair? I think lots of babies have good stretches and then a bad day or so related to teething, viruses etc.

I’m sorry she’s having a hard time. I just wanted to tell you that for us, even when things were at their best, it still wasn’t perfect. We would have a few weeks of decent times, and then the arching would start again really badly. Then a few more good weeks. Eventually the good weeks become more and more, and the bad ones less and less.

The zegerid is definitely worth a try, but it is similar to prevacid in CaraCream.

If it doesn’t work, then I’d really start to wonder if she needs some testing (if she hasn’t had it already) like an endoscopy with biopsies and/or an impedance/pH probe to see what’s going on. I’d also wonder about MSPI as the potential cause of the reflux- sometimes the only signs are reflux symptoms, poor feedings, and constipation.
