InactiveWell, Dagney was doing well on 22.5mg/day of Prevacid for a little while, but it seems like teething is kicking her butt. She started with the throat clearing & refluxing soon after we began transitioning to the Nutramigen, but the GI didn’t think it was the Nutramigen itself–she believed it was teething. Dagney got 4 teeth in only about 1-2 weeks, and I think they’re still bothering her with more coming in too. The GI had us move forward with the transition, but told us if the symptoms didn’t go away, to put her back up to 30mg after 1 week. Yesterday got to be too much for us (throat clearing, fussyness, refluxing), so I upped her yesterday, after only about 4 days. She seems a lot better already, still a little fussy, but much better on all the symptoms. She hasn’t had any diarhea, gas, or throwing up, just the other symptoms, which is another reason they didn’t believe it was the Nutramigen. I am disappointed we’re back up to the 30mg, and wonder if and when we’ll really be able to back her down. My dh thought upping her again was the right thing to do since she was obviously uncomfortable from it & since he’s on meds for his reflux everyday, she may just need it too, although I’d really like to back her down if possible… Any uplifting thoughts from anyone??

InactiveHey,
I’m a newbie with reflux, only been into it for 6 months although it seems like forever sometimes with no end in sight, BUT I would just tell you to hang in there and that she WILL most likely grow out of this. The most important thing is that she’s happy and comfortable, right? I worry too about Kate EVER just BEING without being pumped with meds four times a day but she’s a happy baby for the most part so I’ll take it! Here’s a hug
and I’m glad that the increase made her feel better

InactiveOh Denise, I’m so sorry! I totally understand your desperation at feeling like they will be on these meds for forever. We tried dropping Ben’s meds just over a week ago, and he got a cold and the reflux flared, etc. Now, I can’t even think about dropping him down again. It’s so frustrating. He’s also teething bad right now too. I think working on three at once, so that’s been a pain. Hang in there. Maybe after these pesky teeth work their way in, you can try again.

InactiveMy older son was on 40 mg Nexium til after 1 yr of age and then we gradually weaned him off it and he was completely med free by around 14-15 months of age. He is now almost 4 and doing great! My new baby who is 4 months old is on 22.5 mg Prevacid solutabs and I am in no rush to wean him. I feel it’s better they be pain free than rush it and have them suffer. I have a friend whose daughter is almost 4 and still on Prilosec but it’s worth it to keep them on it if they continue to need it.

InactiveDenise,A great big
to you. I guess the best part is that they don’t think it is the change in formula… that is a step in the right direction right? There are worse things and if she is teething like you say poor thing must be miserable! I hope things get better soon for you guys and that those mean ole teeth go ahead and come through. InactiveThanks everyone!!! I really appreciate it! She’s doing much better with the reflux symptoms, I only heard a couple of throat clearings today, but those darn teeth really are bothering her now! She’s got 8 teeth now, and I’m pretty positive more are coming, she does crazy with anything hard & plastic, rubbing it on her gums, and loves those cold bumpy teether rings. The worst part of the day for her teething wise has always been late afternoon/early evening right before bed. I guess her tiredness doesn’t help it either. She wouldn’t really let me brush her teeth either, so I’m sure something’s coming, but she won’t let me look!
We’ll be heading back to the GI on Sept 28, so we’ll see what she says then–we’ll be trying soy milk next, so maybe once she’s on to soy we’ll try a Prevacid wean again…September 3, 2007 at 11:04 pm #42135Anonymous
InactiveDon’t be discouraged Denise! Teething is AWFUL for reflux! We have been up and down with our wean from meds too and I know how disappointing it is to think you’ve gotten SO far and then WHAM…back to square one. You could always try to wean her again once teething doesn’t seem to be bothering her. I mentioned to my pharmacist when Sarah was 9 months old that we had tried to wean her and it was a disaster. He said “That’s OK, you can always try again in 6 months”. I thought 6 months seemed like an eternity…but he turned out to be right. 15 months was when we were finally able to get her down to 12mgs per day. Don’t give up…this doesn’t mean she’ll be on meds FOREVER…just a little longer.
