InactiveMy dd is eating better and I want to try giving the prevacid capsules with food, Can I try putting some capsules beads on yogurt and do I have to always use applesauce???
Also, after I give the capsules, I shoul;d just take her out of high chair and wait 30 min for effectiveness?????September 9, 2007 at 10:48 pm #42397Anonymous
Inactiveno you cant give prevacid capsules with food. you can only give them with juice or applesauce (acidic) and it has to be at least 30 min. before a meal to get the full effect of the medicine. i pour the beads in his mouth and squirt juice in there.

InactivePretty much. But I wouldn’t bother with the highchair, because no doubt she associates it with a meal and she will get upset if she doesn’t get one whilst in it. It is tough work this timing of meds.

InactiveI too gave the beads w/applesauce.. i would kinda offer it like a mini snack right before i thought he would be getting hungry.. and not in the high chair either. You should give it with about a tablespoon of applesauce. So probably 4 baby scoops? And wait 30 min. until meal time. Shane actually worked well with that.. because he was hungry often and it would help hold him off until his bottle.

InactiveWe have always used the solutabs, which we just dissolve in a little syringe and squirt into Dagney’s mouth. She LOVES it, b/c it’s strawberry flavored, and gets SO excited when she sees that syringe, she grabs for it and jumps and squeals sometimes. Is there anyway you can switch to the solutabs? That way, you don’t have to try feeding her w/ the spoon or put her in the highchair and upset her. She just sits on my lap and I give her this, which usually is enough for her too, to hold her off till her meal. It’s like a little fruity treat!

InactiveIf I remember correctly, you’re using caracream now, right? That’s the easiest way to give it.

Inactivecaracream does not need to be timed with meals in that case.

InactiveCarson has never tolerated applesauce or anything citric. I have always given Carson his prilosec on top of a spoonful of rice cereal. Our doc said that was fine. It definately works because when I have forgotten his last dose of Prilosec I KNOW it! Our doc said it works best in an acidic substance – and that is what they did their testing with – but whatever works to get it down. So, we do rice cereal and it works great for us! One spoonful – put the beads on top and push them down a bit – one bite goes in and typically I give him one more bite of just rice cereal – set the timer for 30 minutes and we are done!
