InactiveMatthew always shows esophagitis in his endos. How did they describe it? it is important to know. Matthew’s is mild with the prevacid and does not bother him.
You could switch PPIs but if you read through them, there is an immediate action of the drug and a more longterm cure, about 8 weeks or so (If i remember correctly on how PPIs work)… so she may be right there.September 10, 2007 at 9:16 pm #42431Anonymous

InactiveSorry to hear that she has esophagitis. But the fact that it’s healing is a good sign. Likely means that the prevacid is now working. If she’s having trouble with feedings, it could be due to the acute esophagitis, or it could just be due to reflux pain, or it could also be a feeding aversion that has developed. Hailey refused feedings and arched even when her esophagus had cleared. Maybe you can ask to try carafate in the meantime?

InactiveFor those of you who had healed scopes, like Lorie, what did you do when Hailey still arched and refused feedings? How long did that last. She takes her bottle with no arching, she only arches in high chair after 2-3 bites of food.
We stopped caracream due to the faxt she hated the taste and went onto the capsules in applesauce which she takes nicely. She never cries out of hunger maybe she lacks that hormone, I just offer her food /bottle every 4 hrs and hope she takes.September 12, 2007 at 5:03 am #42503Anonymous
InactiveI wouldn’t necessarily use what we did as a guide for what’s right, because I certainly made some mistakes. BUT…
Hailey’s feeding aversion was full force from two months on- I’d say a feeding refusal more than an aversion. She was literally impossible to feed. I had to feed her asleep through the day and night, and it was a frustrating affair, b/c she even arched and refused in her sleep. She also NEVER cried out of hunger- I think that she learned that feeding hurts so she just never wanted to feed (and hence the never crying for food/bottle). So basically, we sleep fed, and most importantly, we started FEEDING THERAPY. I can’t say enough about how critical this was. The feeding therapist really helped us to get through the feeding refusal. It was a very slow process, and only until somewhat recently- somewhere around 20 months, did we start to really see some improvements. She now eats and drinks and takes a bottle willingly for supplement, but on her own terms. She’s extremely fussy and picky eater. In terms of Adi, I would definitely look into feeding therapy. I’d also consider if she may be MSPI if you haven’t looked into that already. I’d also ask her GI for a current plan of action re: the inflammation. Does he plan to re-evaluate at any point to make sure things heal? Our feeding therapist felt strongly that the inflammation should be controlled before starting feeding therapy. I know that others have said that their kids always have a bit of inflammation and they’ve been in feeding therapy anyhow. Good luck. -
