InactiveI live in an apartment building and the hallway has a window right by the stairs. One of our neighbors smokes by that window, which, unfortunately is very close to my apartment window. Every time she smokes, my apartment fills up with the stink of the smoke. I can’t stand the smell of it and quiet frankly, I don’t want to expose Ariella and my unborn child to it. I’ve asked her twice nicely and she’d stop for a week or so and then she’d resume doing it again. I’m so sick of this smell and don’t think I have to take it especially when it clearly indicates “NO SMOKING” right by the window. Talking to the super is useless and our management might as well be non existent. Is there something else that can be done? It’s obvious that talking to her is not helpful.

InactiveUgh, that is such a bad situation, but if it were me, I’d go to the office again and complain! I’d tell them it’s smelling up your house. I’d be terribly dramatic…tell them everyone is asthmatic in your house and of course, remind them you are prego…
My take on it is this…YOU don’t smoke in your house…so YOUR house shouldn’t smell like SMOKE!!!!
Good luck, I hope it ends soon.jilly782007-09-18 14:04:07

InactivePut up a smoke detector right by the window! HEEHEE!
I would definitely go and complain again like Jill said above, make it very dramatic and that the baby is asthamatic and if this happens and the baby ends up in the hospital because of an asthma attack due to the smoke you will make him/her pay the hospital bill or tell them he will have to pay for cleaning of all your house and a very expensive heppa filter! It is a frustrating situation! Good luck!September 18, 2007 at 3:16 pm #42877Anonymous
InactiveJill and Sue….ugh, tell me about it. I’m very frustrated to say the least. I”m going to write a letter to the office and if they do nothing about it, I’ll call 311 and see what else can be done. The building was fined one time b/c we had a fire in a hallway one floor above ours and it was due to their negligence. I’m sure if I write the letter stating that’ll be my next step, they’ll decide to do something about it.

InactiveThat’s what I’d do! Let us know what happens. That is so frustrating!!
And the smoke detector by the window comment was funny…hehe. That thing would blast off all day, but it’s a funny thought. LOL! jilly782007-09-19 21:03:10September 20, 2007 at 10:28 am #42952Anonymous
InactiveLOL…we do have a smoke detector in the hallway but I think it doesn’t have a battery. HEHEHE…I guess I’m investing in a battery and asking DH to install it. Good idea, Sue.

InactiveThat would be great to have that smoke detector working because it if continues to go off maybe she would get fined and that would teach her a lesson!

InactiveHEHEHE, I can’t help, but laugh about the smoke alarm
. maybe getting ear plugs for you and Ariella, so it won’t be too bad
.On a more serious aspect, , when you write your note, maybe you can add that the building says “NO SMOKING” and she is breaking the rule?. Like Sue and Jill said, i woudl be very dramatic about it as well. -
