InactiveDid anyone watch the Oprah show yesterday about Jenny McCarthy and her son with Autism. Basically she tells about her son with Autism and her struggles and triumphs with having a special needs child. It really spoke to me though about the MMR shot and it’s effect on our babies. Peyton is 4 months old and I just thought about having to go through what she did. I know there is research about the MMR shot and autism but I don’t know which to believe. Now I have all these “what if’s” in the back of my mind for when that time comes. Peyton goes to daycare so I bet they require that vaccine. Anyway, just wanted to share that thought, scarey as it may be

InactiveI watched part of it. It IS scary and I don’t know what to tell you. Wasn’t it another one that they blamed autism on before? Ugh, it’s such a difficult subject and the scariest part of it all is that the number of kids being diagnosed keeps rising. You can’t fight something if you don’t know the exact source of the problem. They have some “clues” but nothing specific. I just pray that they research more and find out the true cause of it. I treat children with autism and I see how difficult it is. My hat’s off to all those families who deal with it every day. It is tough.

InactiveI have done tons of reading on this whole topic. I am not ANTI-vaccine.. but i do think there are more careful ways of going around them. I know that any vaccines that are a combo are not good.. too much for the system.. so that would mean MMR..
I dont want to go into this whole “debate”.. but i think if you seperate them.. it should be better. And the MMR used to contain mercury.. which was proven to cause autism and other diseases. But now they make them w/out it. Not sure how safe they are still.. which i guess is the scary part. Also if you wait till they are older ..the chances are not as high because their bodies/immune systems are in better shape to handle them.September 19, 2007 at 8:45 pm #42937Anonymous
InactiveI watched as much as I could with Cooper wanting my attention. It is very scary, but I think that there isn’t much that can be done until they are diagnosed. It is so hard to diagnose and is misdiagnosed so often kind of like reflux, but I think as parents we just have to be proactive and if you think you are seeing signs then tell you doctor and go someone who can diagnose it for sure. I personally think vaccines are okay, but that is a personal choice and if you feel the need to wait longer to get things like MMR done then that is your choice. The part of the MMR that scares me is that I believe it has egg in it and if you have a baby that is allergic I wonder how they give it… but that is off topic.

InactiveYou know, I saw the second half of this show yesterday, and it freaked me out. I think she said that it’s like 1 in 95 boys are diagnosed now? Guess where we were yesterday morning… getting Ben’s shots.. and one was the MMR.

Inactivemmr never contained mercury.
mercury isnt the only source in vaccines that is linked to autism. try:aluminum hydroxide
aluminum phosphate
ammonium sulfate
amphotericin B
animal tissues: pig blood, horse blood, rabbit brain,
dog kidney, monkey kidney,
chick embryo, chicken egg, duck egg
calf (bovine) serum
betapropiolactone
fetal bovine serum
formaldehyde
formalin
gelatin
glycerol
human diploid cells (originating from human aborted fetal tissue)
hydrolized gelatin
monosodium glutamate (MSG)
neomycin
neomycin sulfate
phenol red indicator
phenoxyethanol (antifreeze)
potassium diphosphate
potassium monophosphate
polymyxin B
polysorbate 20
polysorbate 80
porcine (pig) pancreatic hydrolysate of casein
residual MRC5 proteins
sorbitol
sucrose
thimerosal (mercury)
tri(n)butylphosphate,
VERO cells, a continuous line of monkey kidney cells
washed sheep red blood cellsi am very thankful that oprah aired that show. most people are too chicken to discuss what pharm companies have been trying to cover up.September 20, 2007 at 7:06 am #42950Anonymous
InactiveNatalia, do you have to use this site as a place to spread anti-vax propaganda?

InactiveSweetcheeks, what are you suggesting? To decline the MMR shot all together??

InactiveNaomi, try not to worry. Just b/c Ben got his shot, doesn’t guarantee that something will go wrong.

InactiveOh no, Marianna, I’m not really worried (well, maybe just a little bit, neurotic mom that i am!
). I really think vaccines are necessary. It was just a weird coincidence that we were at the doctor the same morning the show aired.September 20, 2007 at 1:06 pm #42963Anonymous
InactiveThis is a peace post everyone.
Vaccines can save lifes no doubt about it. I am NOT AGAINST vaccine at all, but there are some children that do have allergic reactions and other side ffects to vaccines ingredients, so as a parent all i can do is EDUCATE myself very well about all the vaccines and discuss my concerns with my pediatrician and decide if my child is a good candidate for the vaccines based on his/her medical history, that is; were there previous reactions to them? and so on. My oldest daughter had ALL her shots w/o any side effects, Kendra however has reacted to them and we are not doing anymore for a while. Based on patch allergies tests she had done, Kendra is allergic to:1-neomycin
2-neomycin sulfate3-formaldehydethree ingredients in some vaccines, so this can explain her reactions.please read, read and educate yourself.Good books to read.“A shot in the dark”“guidelines to vaccines”LeoSeptember 20, 2007 at 1:21 pm #42966Anonymous
InactiveAgreed to above comment, I think Ann Marie’s son Carter had really bad reactions to the point where he was admitted! It is definitely a hard decision for every parent but a decision that really has to be in the best interest of the child and what the family believes in. To each their own! In regards to the Oprah episode, I couldn’t bring myself to watching it since it would make me more worried about what is going on with Taylor, I think I would over react even more! Ignorance is Bliss sometimes!!

Inactiveohh natalia your right.. sorry.. i was thinking of the DTP.. i knew it was one of the combos.. plus others.
anyhow! i too as i posted before.. am not completely anti-vaccine.. i just believe in being educated about it..the best ways to administer them.. and the reasons why some children shouldnt get vaccinated. also every child is different!…. just like the saying that one shoe doesnt fit all! haha.. or something along those sorts
