I was wondering if my little gerdling had this. At times she turns her head to the left and arches her back like she is trying to turn turn over or turn a round like someone is calling her name from behind. Is this normal for reflux babies? I notice she does this when she gets tired and whenn her reflux gets her. Does this go away and who diagnosis this?

any suggetions would help

It does sound like it could be Sandifer’s. It’s hard to diagnose officially though. It’s not NORMAL for reflux babies- Sandifer’s is a pain response to esophagitis/reflux. Babies who are not in pain do not have Sandifer’s even if they have reflux. Our daughter had very severe Sandifer’s. She had an EEG to confirm the diagnosis- basically the EEG came back normal and at that point they ruled out myoclonic seizures and agreed that it was due to Sandifer’s. How old is your daughter and is she on any meds? If she has Sandifer’s then I’d certainly mention it to her doc. Maybe she needs an increase in her dose.

she is 3 1/2 months and she is on Nexium 20mg which I split into and give it twice. She also is on erythromycin and periactin three times a day.

maybe you need to raise the dose. I had tried nexium, the powder packets for about 5 days and the beeds didn’t fully dissolve to make a true suspension. Are you using the beeds or the capsules opened up?

Also, it only worked for my dd at almost 40-50 mgs a day!!! Granted my dd is older, she was 8 mo when we tried the nexium. The most luck I’ve had is w/ prevacid, but a high dose-30-40 mg a day!!!!!Now she is doing ok on about 36 a day, meaning her sandifer symptoms have diminished significantly. I woulds just try a higher dose of the nexium and if it works, get your family dr to write the script.

I’d also wonder if a high dose of a different med would help. What’s the periactin for… I know it’s usually an appetite stimulant for older babes.
