InactiveHey gals,
Well, Kate has successfully tried bananas, avacados, sweet potatoes,….squash is where the problem lies.
She is soooo constipated! This is the first time ever that has happened. She pushes and pushes super hard and for all that effort she poops out a little cookie dough like ball!!!
My question is should I stop solids untill her system’s clear or continue the squash? Try something else? It’s been two days so far and definately the squash that’s causing the trouble. She did great with everything else. The ped says to give her water but I can’t get it down her! She laughs at me when I try and give her a bottle with water in it and thinks her sippy cup is just a hysterical toy.She has this unexplainedl ow-grade fever with no other symptoms so I’m PRAYING it’s not another UTI b/c we just took her off antibiotics after three months of it. Man oh man….OH!! She rolled over! Finally! Yay!Thanks for any advice, I’m not sure what to do and looking desperately to you guys for help!

InactiveYah for rolling.
I would just stop the squash…and keep to the foods she has tolerated for a few days. Keep trying with the water…it can take awhile for them to get it. I know people don’t recommend juice…but you could try a little watered down pear juice to get those bowels working.I hope its not a UTI…could it be teething…Alana often has a low grade fever when teething.September 27, 2007 at 6:42 am #43390Anonymous
InactiveClaire,
Big hug, you poor thing. I agree with Therese, we just started the watered down pear juice (i give 3oz water and 1 oz juice) it barely has any flavor and Cooper still isn’t a huge fan, but he has been having better bm’s, his had gotten more solid with the solids….I would hold off on squash for a week or so and move on to another veggie, maybe green beans or carrots….be warned though that the carrots stain like crazy…. I hate giving them to him b/c they stain so bad. Good Luck, we finally got our 3rd tooth yesterday (3 months after the 2nd one appeared), this teething thing is so tricky, I hope that is the cause of her low grade fever, Cooper had one for several days last week too.September 27, 2007 at 10:45 am #43395Anonymous
InactiveYAY for rolling Kate!!!
As for the fever, I would suspect a tooth too. This age is so common! But def keep a close eye with her UTI history, I hope it isn’t that. For the constipation, you could try the juice. I know some babies on here use Benefiber, and some of them are so chronically constipated (like Kate’s Birthday Buddy Landen
) that they take Miralax (OTC). You would want to check with your ped or ped gi for her dose first though. We use a tsp per day. 1.5 tsp was a bit tooo much for him
. I’ve heard of some moms using Karo syrup or Brown sugar too.October 1, 2007 at 4:50 pm #43583Anonymous
InactiveMy DS just started solids too and I’ve just added the gerber apple prune juice to his bottles and that has worked well. My Dr. said as I move toward more solids, less bottles to feed him prunes if he gets backed up. So far none of what I have done has made his reflux worse. He is on 15mg Prevacid and Axid as needed. Best of luck! 🙂
