InactiveJust curious if anyone has had to have their baby’s tear duct opened. Evie’s tear duct has not totally opened and her right eye is always tearing. Our ped referred us to the ped. opthamologist just to get established. He told us that it may still clear up but wants to get her seen by the specialist. My pessimism leads me to believe that I’ll have to end up getting it opened! I’m reading that it’s a relatively easy procedure but was wondering if anyone else had it done and how was it???

InactiveMy dd had a blocked tear duct. We started seeing a Ped Opthamalogist at about 6 months and we had to wait until she was a year old before he would open it. At a year, she went in for outpatient surgery to have it opened and from that day on the tear duct was totally normal. The surgery was not bad at all, she took a normal nap that day and was just fine.

InactiveHey Katie, Claire’s tear duct was blocked too, and it was such a pain keeping that eye free of gunk! But, she outgrew it at a year, so hopefully, Evie will too!

InactiveWe had to have the surgery done for Luke. It was very simple. I was so worried that I was going to lose him, but the surgery took at the most 15 mins. He was back to his old self the next day. I felt pretty silly for worrying so much.

InactiveThis is so great that you posted this Katie because I was wondering the same thing! Kate’s left eye is always tearing, red, gunky, it’s terrible. I feel so bad for her. I talked to my ped about it and they said that probing it is like a last resort type of thing and that she’s waay to young anyway. They reassured me that she’d grow out of it but like you I’m skeptical. It drives me nuts! We can never get a picture of her without the yuckies in her eye(
) but most of all I feel so bad for her and her sad little eye!
Evie’s new picture is so precious by the way!September 28, 2007 at 10:15 pm #43467Anonymous
InactiveAnn Marie ~ I try to stop by from time to time. Hailey is great, thanks for asking. She’s started preschool and a new daycare this year and has adjusted better than I ever imagined. She’s such a great little girl. I’ve read a couple of your posts recently about Carter. It sounds like you’ve got yourself a great doctor that will really help you get to the bottom of what’s going on. Big hugs to you and your family. Take care!
