InactiveI know I shouldn’t complain. I remember when Justice was in the prime of everything and waking every hour or so I would get on here and read this section for help. I remember other moms going through what I am now and I thought, ” give me a break at least your getting sleep”. Well, here I am doing the same thing. It is hard to get used to the sleep and then all of a sudden things go bad again. So, for those mommas, I am sooooo sorry for what your going through. Just know that your babies will start sleeping.
Here is our situation, Justice was only waking twice at the most at night. Now for the past few weeks it has been 3 or more times and it is taking quite some time to get him back to sleep. He was sick so I understood the waking, but now I’m clueless what the waking is all about. I thought maybe possibly two year molars, but he’s only 17 months for crying out loud. I gave him some motrin last night and things were even worse with the waking. So, I resorted to benadryl which I hate doing. Last night was bad though. He had already woken up 4 times, by 8:00 pm and I had put him down at 6:45. The only other thing I can think of is I had and he had some veggie shreds a little over a week ago that might be bothering him. So, I haven’t been eating any of that or letting him. Oh, I have thought of soy too, since we are doing soy instead of dairy, but we have been doing that for so long that just doesn’t seem like it could be the culprit. Anybody have any good ideas of what could be going on? I am at a loss.October 4, 2007 at 2:31 pm #43755Anonymous
InactiveI can’t remember, is Justice still on reflux meds? If the motrin made things worse, motrin made Dylan scream like crazy as it produced more acid in his tummy. Maybe try a bit of mylanta or somethign when he wakes and see if that helps.
Also, not sure, but could be dreams, or developmental? Maybe if he was waking when sick last week and you were going into him, it is amazing how quick these little ones catch on and try to see how often we will come? Just a thought….Here’s to getting more sleep again soon!!!!Ann MarieOctober 4, 2007 at 2:32 pm #43756Anonymous
InactiveMy first thought is always an ear infection. You said he had been sick. Was it a cold? If so, then an infection could certainly be causing it. Ben wakes like this either when he is sick or about to get sick. I wouldn’t think the veggie cheese would be bothering him that much after a week without it, but that’s just my opinion.
And the molars could be it too.. Did he get his other teeth early?October 4, 2007 at 3:40 pm #43762Anonymous
InactiveMy daughter would do this when she had ear infections, after several bout with ear infection she finally had to get tubes. When she did have a ear infection she would not always ran a fever. Might check the ears

InactiveDidn’t even think of ears, but Naomi and Stacey may be right! That could be it, too….

InactiveI have thought of the ears, but he doesn’t pull on them at all. He is not on reflux meds anymore. He outgrew his reflux at 9 months, but I have also thought of giving him some mylanta. I might just try that tonight. He got his first teeth at 5 months and has had all his teeth for awhile now. The only ones left to come in are his two year molars. As for the veggie cheese, I thought it could be still in my breast milk. We will see how tonight goes. I think I will try the mylanta tonight and see what happens. If this continues until Monday I might just have to go back to square one with sleep training again. UGH! We have had to go back to square one with potty training with Luke and that is driving me crazy. It makes me feel like a bad mom. Like I am doing something wrong.

InactiveDanika would not always tug at her ear when she has a ear infection, at times I thought it was a new tooth coming in , but a couple of days of waking up she would start running a fever. Danika did not have reflux like her little sister though

InactiveHope he feels better soon. Alana did not tug at her ears at all the two times she had ear infections…just became miserable, particularly at night.

InactiveI can’t offer any other suggestions, only give you support that we are right there with you. Cooper was up 3 times from 8p until 10p last night and then was up from 12:45a until 2:30a and then he finally slept until 6a without waking, I am assuming we have a teeth issue as he is cutting his 2 top teeth and he doesn’t appear to be in pain so we don’t assume we are dealing with reflux of ear infections and thankfully we only have a really bad night like that every few days other wise I get up 4 or 5 times/night but usually for no more than 30 min at a time, but I understand your frustration. Good Luck.

InactiveShelby,
I can certainly understand your frustrations and confusion! I went through this for soo long with DS1 and it’s no different with Landen. It is so rare for Landen to go a 4 hour stretch. I’ve literally gone years without sleep. I just wanted to give you a HUG and tell you a little story…and it isn’t to convince you of anything…just sharing a story
For so long I argued with my DH about this regarding Kaden. From the time he was 18mos- 2 years old he would wake several time per night and I was always wondering if he was refluxing (although I *though* outgrown) had an ear infection?, crying for his taggies blanket which he loses at night?, was having a bad dream?, etc etc etc. He’d have me up all night and I was PG with Landen. DH SWORE he was just testing me to see how many times I’d run into the room at night. Well, DH “broke” Kaden of this while I was in the hospital recovering from my c-section with Landen for 2 nights (all it took) b/c Kaden didn’t really need anything.
He now sleeps with a night light, a sippy cup of water and his taggies blanket in a toddler bed from 8pm-8am. October 6, 2007 at 4:24 pm #43840Anonymous
InactiveI have even thought about what your saying Jilly78, but when he wakes up he is not happy to see me. He lays there and screams and rolls all over the bed. Sometimes he bats at his ears too. That makes me think possible ear infection, but he’s not batting at them during the day, has no fever, and ibprofin doesn’t help. I wish I had one of those stupid things to look in his ears so I could just rule it out and go on. I have a feeling if I go to the dr. it is going to be a wasted trip. We just don’t go to the dr. I think if it continues I might go get some earache tablets and see if they help. I gave him some teething tablets last night and for nap today and he slept pretty well. I am so darn confused. With the teething tablets working, it might be my answer that it’s teething, but then again it could’ve been a fluke. I am going to try again tonight. Again, thanks for always being there ladies. Even when my lo has outgrown his reflux. We are planning to get pregnant with baby 3 in August of next year, so I’m sure in a few years I will be on here again with another refluxer. You ladies helped me more than any of the drs . we saw. Thank you.

InactiveOh…I am sorry Shelby. It sounds like it really might be teething pain. 🙁

InactiveI don’t think I ever updated you ladies. Apparently his I teeth were coming in and pushing against his two top teeth. He used to have a big gap in his teeth, but it is now gone. Those teeth completly closed up his gap. Poor baby must have been in so much pain. He is back to only waking once a night to eat and sometimes not even that. Thank you all again for your responses.
