InactiveI was wondering if anyone knew how long it takes for erythromycin to kick in? Danielle was given a prescription of 0.5 mL 4 times a day – it’s 40mg/mL – so she’s on 20 mg four times a day. Does that sound right? And does it begin immediately, or does it take a couple of weeks to see the results like with the PPI’s?

InactiveHello,
I think it took a couple of weeks for us to see a difference with the Erythromycin, and we saw an even bigger difference once he was on a high enough dose. (We had to increase it once). Bryce is on a much higher dose then Danielle, so if you don’t see a difference, you may need a higher dose. Bryce started out on 0.5 ml 3 times per day at 7 months. At 9 months they increased his dose to 0.7ml 3 times per day, and it made a huge difference. His medicine is 125mg/ml though. Good luck! Hopefully the dose she’s on will make a difference and you won’t have to worry about it.October 19, 2007 at 12:47 pm #44474Anonymous
InactiveIt took a couple of weeks for us as well. Kendra is on 2ml 3 times a day. Hers is 200/5ml concentraction so about 300mg a day. It seems to be helping. Like Heather said, if you don’t see results, you might want to ask for an increase.

InactiveThank you so much for the info. I probably should have mentioned that Danielle weighed a little over 9 pounds when it was prescribed. Do you ladies happen to know how many mg/kg your cuties are on? For Danielle it ended up being about 5mg/kg – does that still sound low?
Interestingly, my son was prescribed it yesterday by the regular ped – and he’s on 10mg/kg. I thought that was odd, since she planned to dose him the same as Danielle.
Also, how did you know it was actually working? I’m not sure what to be looking for here.
Thanks again!!!

InactiveI’m not sure what the mg/kg ratio is. I know that Bryce started on his Erythromycin when he was 7 months old and weighted about 12 lbs I think. He is still on the same dose now at age 22 months and 22 lbs.
We knew the Erythromycin was working for Bryce because his throwing up reduced dramatically and he was able to keep enough food down to gain weight.

InactiveWhat is the Erythromycin supposed to do?
None of my Drs have mentioned that to us. Thanks!October 31, 2007 at 2:53 pm #44822Anonymous
InactiveErythromycin is actually an antibiotic, but when given in small daily doses, it helps the stomach empty faster.
