I have 2month twins on Prilosec 2xs a day, and taking Mylanta in between doses. Anyway, the Prilosec seems to be helping they are not as fussy as they were, but now they seem to spit up a lot more. Is this normal??? They have both been dianosed with having GERD and have to go in later this week for a modified Barium swallow, because they are asprating fluid into their lungs. Is there something that can be given to help with the spit up or is it just something they have to outgrow?? With them being preemies and small for their age I worry about them spitting up.

Sometimes they tend to spit more once they aren’t in pain anymore as it no longer hurts. Are you bf or formula? If you are bf I don’t think you can do anything to thicken your milk. But with formula there is thick it which won’t add calories but should be easily tolerated or rice cereal which causes some problems with little ones and since they are preemies I might look at thick it. HTH. It does get better with age and the worst months are between 4-7.

I BF them both, and they get 3-3oz bottles of rice cereal daily, by request of theie GI specialist. I have to add the rice cereal with formula, but it is the same as we supplemented with in the beginning while they were in the NICU. I just don’t want them to lose or not gain weight because they are so small for their age as it is.
