Here is the short list: threw up on dairy day one of life, bleeding intestines on soy by wk 2, has been on Alimentum for 4 weeks and still having major gas issues and explosive bm’s. We just tried the brown rice in the bottle and this seems to upset her. Should we try Neocate? Other than cost what are the negatives of this formula? It just seems that since her intestines reacted so violently to the soy that perhaps she need Neocate. Any thoughts?

I would ask for a sample from you ped gi. My daughter had the same issue, even on nutramigen and alimentum because there are trace milk proteins in them. The gas pains were so horrible! It does take a week on neocate to see a difference, and they get constipated for that week so ask for a mild laxitive. You will also have to thicken it because it is a watery consistentcy. We thicken with simply thick, and now add oatmeal too, since she is bigger. (Stay away from rice!) Also, many moms get their neocate covered by insurance, you just have your doc. get a letter ready saying she needs it for nutrition. We are in the process of doing that and bidding on it on ebay for 1/2 the price. Good luck! Sarah

We started brown rice cereal in her bottles b/c it does not have soy. What is “simply thick” and where do I get it? Is brown rice bad for her too? I currenlty get Alimentum on ebay and it is substantially cheaper that way. My GI office did give me a can of Neocate.

We just had an upper GI yesterday and all looked good. Of course, she was refluxing. Are there any other tests she should have done?

Hey Charity, its Brandy. Just out here surfing at work, which I probably should not be doing. http://www.simplythick.com is the website. It is another form of thickening for those that can’t handle rice/oatmeal. I seen that you can get it in North Kansas city, I totally forgot to mention that to you. We have never used it but a lot of mothers have.
