Grrr – sorry your doctor never specified . .. time and time again it seems like they don’t and its such a simple thing to convey! Usually people have to play around with dosage timing and splitting doses for maximum effectiveness but overall the most important thing to know is that Prevacid performs best when gastric juices are at their peak – ie, when the stomach is digesting food. So the trick is to give the dose of prevacid on a nearly empty stomach before mealtimes so that you can ensure that the prevacid will be digested and start to work just as the food is beginning to be digested. I know that can be tricky with babies as they usually want to eat something first thing. I used to give the prevacid am dose, nurse, and then give solids after that. It got easier once my daughter was old enough to just want food and I could give her the prevacid right as I was starting to prepare her dinner or whatever. My rule of thumb was giving her her meds around a 1/2 hour before breakfast and 1/2 hour before her evening bottle.
I would say try giving him the Prevacid in-between the nighttime bottle and his meal if you could . ..so after his tummy has worked on the formula but before hes gotten any solids. However, when all is said and done – what works works and if your not having any problems now than your fine. .. but now that you know an emptier stomach would be more conducive to the meds working you have a plan B if things change and you need your meds to work harder.
