InactiveHello all! I am getting desperate for help. My daughter, Libby, has silent reflux. We have been having so much trouble with her sleeping. The only way we can get her to sleep somewhat is by my holding her on my chest as I sit in a recliner. She is now 8 weeks old and it’s getting so difficult for me to try and sleep that way all night long. Plus, she’s starting to move around more and I’m afraid it’s not going to be safe that way. I’ve tried putting her in other things to sleep… the swing, the bouncy, the crib, the bassinet, the infant carrier. She is pretty good about falling asleep in these but usually about 20 minutes later, she wakes up screaming and it takes forever to get her to calm down and fall asleep again. It’s such a vicious cycle. I am trying so hard to make it work but I usually just give up and let her sleep on me because we both are desperate for sleep. Has anybody else had a similar problem and what worked for you?
Thanks so much for your help!
Jen

InactiveHi Jen,
Both of my kids were/are terrible sleepers and I spent more nights than I wish to remember with an unhappy, uncomfortable baby tossing and turning on my chest while I was semi propped up on the couch. Once we addressed the issues of reflux pain, milk/soy protein intolerance (MSPI) and chronic constipation their sleeping improved a lot.Is Libby on anything for her reflux? We first tried Zantac for our daughter Paige and it helped a little bit for a little while, but ended up switching to Prevacid which helped her tremendously. Also, many of our little refluxers have difficulties digesting milk and soy proteins (MSPI) and removing all dairy sources from mom’s diet (if breast feeding) or switching to a hypoallergenic formula (like Alimentum, Nutramigen, Pregestimil or even Neocate, Elecare) can help with reflux if MSPI is suspected.Hopefully you can find lots of help here!March 4, 2008 at 2:31 pm #48794Anonymous
InactiveJen,
I would defintely see a ped GI to see if there is a MSPI issue. They can also help you with a higher dose of meds. I had to sleep on the couch with my ds for the first couple months of his life until his meds were a high enough dose. We first tried Zantac and we are now on Prevacid. It’s a huge difference. Switching him to Elecare (for MSPI) made him a new baby. Also, maybe try a bassinett/crib wedge. Here is the one I use:Hope this helps. Glad you found us! There are SO many helpful moms with GREAT advice.March 4, 2008 at 2:34 pm #48796Anonymous
InactiveYep, sleep was hard to find around here until Ben was more comfortable from a proper dose of meds. Libby is probably waking because of the reflux pain, and I can only imagine how difficult it must be to sleep with that pain all the time.
