InactiveI just read the post from Lisaann (great article) and I have a question of my own. Emma had her inital not wanting to eat when she was born but after a PPI she had been eating very well. Up until she was sick she was eating baby food (2-3 meals a day), around 20-25 oz of formula and snackes every day. She was a porker, no problems, love to eat. She never had a allergic reaction to anything but was intolerate to some foods so I was taking introductions to new foods very slowly. She had a virus with vomitting and diahrrea for a week and a half and was on a pedialyte & ginger ale/cranberry juice diet. It has been a little over a week and now her eating habits have completely changed. She has always loved cereal (cinnamon toast crunch) and this and formula is all she will eat, period. She knows what the cereal looks like and she will crab it and immediately put it in her month. She will not even open her mouth for anything else. She will look at it and immediately refuse all other foods including baby food, she won’t even try it, she will pick it up and play with it. I even try to give her foods she has never had before (even though I am scared she will react to it) just to get her to eat. She has never had a problem with picking foods up and chewing them (she has 6 teeth). She has been on a probiotic once a day for about 2 months and now I give them twice a day since she was sick even though she had a virus and was not on a antibiotic. I don’t understand this, I keep thinking it is just a phase she is going through but I was wondering if any others have had this issue and it turned into more of a problem then just a phase. I try to feed her in her highchair and on the couch or a chair and neither one makes a difference. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated it!!

InactiveThat sounds like a toddler phase. We’ve gone through a lot of them in the last 8 months or so. Keep offering and eventually she’ll go back to eating normally. Frustrating I know but it will definitely pass.

InactiveMy Ellie does this frequently. She was a reflux baby. Once she recovered she was a picky eater for quite some time, but finally to my great surprise she gradually became a very good eater.
BUT, whenever she’d have a bout with illness, she’d return to her old, picky ways
I learned with time to just ignore it and just keep offering her “old favorites” in a relaxed manner and not be pushy or frustrated (or at least not let her see me frustrated). With time she always turns around again and begins to eat a better variety of foods.Kids sometimes get in a rut (eating only a few foods and NOTHING ELSE) for a while. (I saw this when I was a nanny with lots of children who never had reflux or any feeding aversions.)
If Emma previously liked a variety of foods, she will likely start to eat them again soon.
Hang in there and try to be patient, and casual when you are feeding her. If she sees you are upset about what she is not eating she may stay in her “rut” just to assert herself!!
Good luck! I hope Emma is eating lots of yummy and healthy foods again soon.

InactiveKaelyn goes through phases like this all of the time. It makes us crazy! Although, dh and I were both very picky eaters, so I guess we deserve it.

InactiveCould also be that she is “done” with baby food – my kids wouldn’t touch it as they got to be close to a year…
