Hi–i’ve been reading all of the posts about probiotics and enzymes. i want to start giving them to finn– I’m breastfeeding; is it enough for me to take them, or should we both take them?
if i should give them directly to him, what is the best way to do that? when he was a couple of weeks old i was giving him probiotics mixed with a bit of breastmilk in a syringe…but it took so long to get all of the powder down. I also tried it in a pumped bottle, but it would get stuck and clog the nipple…
what do other bfing moms do?

I give Evan a hypoallegenic probiotic. (Ther biotic Infant Formula). I mix with pumped bm (if I have some in the fridge) but usually just w/ water. I mix 1/4tsp of the probiotic w/ 5mL (or less) of water & syringe it up.

I was on a probiotic as well but it was not hypo. Next time I order Evan’s hypo probiotic I will try to find one to order for myself as well.

As for the enzymes… I was taking them myself (CompleteGest digestive enzymes) but didn’t feel like they were making a difference so when I ran out I didn’t order any more. I might give them to him when we start solids around 6-7mths old.

thanks– I just tried giving the probiotic (dairy/soy free) in water and he puked it right back up! maybe i’ll try it in breastmilk next time….

Yes, Evan most definitely prefers it in breastmilk but actually (b/c I haven’t had any in the fridge for over a week) he’s been taking it in water very easily lately.

Let me know if it goes better w/ the brstmilk… are you giving it to him laying flat on his back? When I give it to Evan any other way he spits it back out.

I’ve been giving Clare Genestra HMF probiotic (hypoallergenic). I actually just give it to her on a little spoon in the middle of her feed and then continue to bf to help her wash it down. She takes it great this way (it is kind of sweet tasting)! I have noticed quite the improvement since she started it.
