InactiveBrief history. ..
My oldest son had severe reflux and MSPI. He was on prilosec until 18 months old.My second son also had reflux, but we identified it earlier which I think made everything easier. He was on prilosec until he was 12 months old.We just had a baby girl. She is now 3 weeks old. Of course I have been on REFLUX ALERT since the day she was born.*She spits up easily (out the nose and all)*She only sleeps well being held or on her belly or being held in a carrier*I can hear her reflux and reswallow if I put her down too soon after eating*Bad hiccups and gasBUT*All symptoms have shown some improvement on a dairy-free diet*She doesn’t cry when eating or afterwards. Never pulls off the breast*She doesn’t cry like she is being tortured all day long. She almost always can be settled down.So I haven’t taken her to the doctor about reflux because I feel it is somewhat under control. . .at least compared to my boys.Could the screaming/crying awful reflux still show its ugly head. I had both my boys at the doctor by 2 weeks old. Or do you think at 3 weeks old she would have shown the worst of it by now.December 5, 2008 at 4:10 pm #59253Anonymous
InactiveJust my opinion but I didn’t consider our reflux ‘under control’ until I was able to lay my ds down on his back after a feeding (to play or sleep) & he was content. Also, when I didn’t have to wear (or hold) him most of the day. For us the discomfort was combo reflux + intolerances… but it looks like you’re working on the intolerances.
I will also say that eventhough Evan was MISERABLE early on – he never cried during feedings, only cried after if put on his back & also never pulled off the breast. Just a thought.
I hope for you that this isn’t reflux but I just wanted to share my 2 cents. It sounds like she isn’t totally miserable but it still suffering somewhat from reflux &/or intolerances.

InactiveI wouldn’t consider yourself out of the woods just yet. Gerdlings can have periods of good days and bad days. My son is 8 weeks old on Prevacid 7.5 3 x’s daily and Zantac 1.5ML 2 x’s daily, plus other things we do to help his reflux. He has his good days, and he has his bad days. I agree with Erin, that I wouldn’t consider the reflux *under control* until baby can be laid down right after a feeding, and have little if no symptoms of reflux.
Also, your DD could be a refluxer but not as severe as your other children, BUT just think of the damage the reflux can still do to her if it isn’t treated properlly. If reflux isn’t treated it can lead to esphogeal(sp) problems that could need surgical treatment. Also if refluxers aren’t treated, the symptoms may go away by a year or 2 of age, but they can still have prolonged reflux in their toddler through adult ages. Some babies have a high tolerance for the reflux pain and burning, as every baby is different. I would still take normal precautions and treatment with a baby who has the slightest bit of reflux, even if it is simply a diet change.December 6, 2008 at 3:49 pm #59316Anonymous
InactiveUnfortunately, my son’s reflux didn’t kick into gear until 4 months and boy did it all go south! He was a dream baby until that point. My ped GI was saying something about an inherited tendency (ie his sister has reflux so likely he did too) but my little man was screaming in my ear so I never really got whatever he was trying to tell me 🙂
Removing dairy/soy is a great start. You may want to keep a food journal as well.
I do wish you the best!!!
