InactiveMy son Matt has been on Zantac since March 20th and like some other people have said – it worked for a little while, then it doesn’t work anymore. We are going to see a ped GI spec in 3 weeks (WOW! – first appt I could get) but in the interim, my ped (after talking to the GI Spec) is giving us a scrip for Prevacid. I have been reading in the forums about chocobase and caracream, but looks like their website has been shutdown – is this stuff still available? if yes, where can I get it? thanks all!

InactiveWe got ours compounded at the pharmacy but you have to get it with no flavoring and with a certain % of sodium bicarbonate. Only last for 2 weeks at a time too. Also, at 4 months old we started giving the beads in a little bit of applesauce, waiting 30 mins then activating it with her milk or more baby food. I do know a mom who was trying to sell it here last month. I never got around to getting some but i am going to purchase a couple bottles. I could forward her email address if you like. But… you need to start the prevacid now because it takes 14 days to get in their systems. Use the zantac in between (check dosage chart) spaced 4 hours apart from the prevacid. We had to do the same thing at one point too! Good luck!

InactiveChristine – After I put my message out there, I did see that post from Joel – that would be my luck that they aren’t selling it anymore in the U.S.
Sarah – yes please, if you could send me that email address – anything to try to make this easier for Matt – I can’t get the scrip til tmrw (drugstore was out and had to order it for me) – we need all the luck we can get – thanks!
Thanks Ladies!

InactiveMy husband is in the medical field, so he is going to ask a pharmacist friend in Canada to send us some. Just nice to have it on hand.
Hope you don’t mind Christine! Giving out your address, but its for a good cause…
Christine in MarylandI was trying to get some too, but there is something called therosal that I never got around to asking Joel about. You have to use the therosal and the caracream together. Not sure if she has any left, but its worth a try. Where are you?? Prevacid is a very common drug. Couldn’t they at least loan you 1 capsule if they didn’t have 30? Sometimes you have to shop around for pharmacists. Also, there are specialty shops usually mom and pop pharmacies that do the compounding. Good luck! Hope the baby gets on the meds soon and can get some relief!April 14, 2006 at 12:03 pm #6131Anonymous
InactiveChrista,
Have your pharmacist contact a distributor called FlavoRx. We are only able to sell CaraCream for research purposes, but we have a study set up with FlavoRx which allows them to buy it from us and distribute it to pharmacies. Make sure to ask for the CaraCream Jr EZ Mix kits, not the regular size CaraCream kits. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me: andrewsjj@health.missouri.edu.

InactiveWe had a lot of luck with Prevacid Solutabs. Just another thought in case you don’t want to go to the hassle of trying to get the Caracream.
