InactiveHI All!
We’ve been using Dr Brown’s bottles, standard size for a while. Harry likes them and I bought enough that I haven’t ruined my hands trying to clean them all-just stick them all in the dishwasher! BUT now that we’re giving thickened formula, it gets all clogged up in there. Any secrets anyone knows to stop that from happening?I tried switching him to the Playtex drop-ins, but he doesn’t like the wider nipple–he pushes it out and won’t eat. Does anyone know of any other drop-in type bottle that’s a standard size rather than wide mouth? I figure I minus well go with easy drop-ins if I’m going to switch bottles, I really don’t want to have to buy all new bottles again!!ThanksNovember 12, 2009 at 12:13 pm #64534Anonymous
InactiveI know they are discontinued now, but you may be able to find some on ebay or amazon. I used them for Evie. Avent Tempo. They are drop-ins and are BPA free. You can use all the reular Avent nipples. There were a few on clearance at Target recently.

InactiveI just realized you didn’t want wide mouth. Sorry. I’d check babiesrus.com. They have a lot of bottles.

InactiveI am going to try the born free glass bottles this go round but they are expensive… What is getting clogged the nipple or the “valve” for lack of a better word? If it is the nipple don’t they make a Y cut for thickened formulas? Just trying to help you trouble shoot.

InactiveThanks ladies! It’s the valve part on the inside that gets all gooped up with formula. I don’t remember this happening when I did it with Dagney, I must have done something different, but can’t remember what! The only difference is that we used the wide-mouth with her, so maybe those valves have more space in them…not sure!

InactiveIf you run the cereal flakes through a coffee grinder or a food processor (so that it’s like table sugar), you will be able to get a more smooth consistency of thickened formula that will travel through the venting system just fine. We used about 3 tbsp of rice cereal for 4 ounces of formula, so it was pretty dang goopy, but we had no issues with the venting system after we started processing the cereal.

InactiveWe used the Dr Browns with a size 4 nipple w/ oatmeal and a size 3 w/ simply thick and we never had any issues so you may wanna try that. We also ran the oatmeal through a small food processer first so maybe that made a difference.c5afwife2009-11-19 08:57:15
