Delia got put on Prevacid solutabs today, and I’m trying to give her the first dose but she spits it out every time! I don’t know what to do. We usually put her meds in her bottles but the pedi GI was adamant that it be given orally and alone.
Also, should the little bead dissolve completely? Cuz I can’t get them to.

No the beads don’t dissolve, they’re not really supposed to. Here’s what I used to do- get a medicine dropper (not a syringe, like the kind in infants tylenol). mix the soutab on a spoon or in a small medicine cup with a few mls of water – sorry can’t remember how much I used to use as it was long ago- suck it into the medicine dropper. Put it at the side of the cheek nearer to the back of the mouth so it’s harder to spit out. If you need to, you can hold the mouth closed and blow in her face to get her to swallow… that’s kind of harsh, but we had to do it sometimes (though it did make it unplesant)!

Must be done on an empty stomach and followed up with a meal 30-60 minutes later.

I could never get my dd to take meds well, it was hard. If you need to, you may want to try bufferbabies. We used caracream b/c we could mix into her formula that way and didn’t have to time with meals.

Goodluck.

Depending on how old she is, I used to hold the tab inside my son’s cheek with my finger and then use a syringe with some water to squirt into his cheek to help it dissolve faster, then we gave him his paci to suck on afterwards to ensure it stayed down.
