InactiveConnor has had acid reflux from the day he was born but was put on zantac when he was 3 weeks old. We have been very lucky because zantac seemed to help. What I need help with now is Connor is such a wonderful baby during the day….of course he spits up all the time and gets the wet hiccups and drools but his pain is fine most of the time. Its the night time that now has me confused! How can I have this perfect happy baby during the day but at night he will wake up ever 10 minutes screaming in pain. We keep him elevated, he refuses to be laid flat! I really don’t know what is going on. We took him to his doctor 3 weeks ago because we were worried but she told me that for some reason acid reflux peaks at 4 months. But WHY only at night? and I don’t even know if its because of acid reflux, his little tummy get so hard, could it be gas? but for 4 weeks straight?? I’m so sad and so tired I would just love to hear others advice. I’m gonna try the TED diet. I have pretty much taken out dairy but still have yogurt. And on Christmas day I had egg nog and the last few nights have been hell…so mad at myself! Oh and Connor is only BF and was born 8lb 2oz and is now 16lb.
Oh and one last thing…..I asked my doctor about Mylanta because I read here of a lot of moms giving it to there babies to help, she sounded like it was not recommended? Can you tell me your thoughts?

Inactivehave you tried eliminating soy from your diet? That seemed to be the one thing that did the trick for us with our DS. There are so many things that have soy.. that’s why we ended up on the hypoallergenic formula.

InactiveI haven’t tried eliminating soy, but i will be trying the TED diet. I really am just lost right now. He seems fine during the day, then I put him down and the first streach will be 2 hours then after the first feed at bedtime he is up every ten minutes. If he is on my chest he will arch his back and cry, if I get him in his crib he does crunches and will not settle until I pick him up and pat his back….I’m so confused because nothing comes out no burp….so what is causing his pain….he so squirmy when he wakes up crying, something is really hurting him. And I know he wants to be sleeping because once I pat him and calm him he is back asleep….but then wakes up again in like 10 minutes. Its funny how things change so fast. He use to be pretty fussy during the day because of his acid reflux, and he would sleep for 4 hours stretches at night only waking to eat and nothing more. Now hes great during the day and so bad at night. Poor little guy.

InactiveI can understand where you are coming from. It is so hard to tell what is wrong when these little folks can’t tell you what’s bothering them! I know that the Zantac is weight sensitive… when is the last time your doctor adjusted your dosage? You might also try another medication at nighttime to help him, such as Prevacid. I might suggest these things to your doctor.
I know you are not supposed to, but our ds slept on his tummy for a long time…it seemed to help his reflux. Now that he can move about on his own, he moves from tummy to his side to his back–never know which side I’ll find him in the morning.

InactiveWe went to the doctor 3 weeks ago and they increased it from 1.4 to 1.6ml. I did ask my doctor if we should put him on another medicine and she felt that he did not need more medicine. That why I was curious about the mylanta at night. But again the doctor said she would not recommend that.

InactiveWe tried the Mylanta at one point, but we stopped it b/c of some sort of reaction our ds had to it, and it did not seem to help. I don’t think it would hurt to try it. The ped. GI’s we saw recommend trying the Mylanta supreme. I can’t remember the dosage, but we mixed it in his bottles. I guess you could give it in a dropper as well.
Have you seen a pediatric GI yet? We did not have much success with ours, but I’ve heard great things about some out there. Probably worth a shot if your doctor is not willing to work with you.I hope you find something that helps. I know how frustrating it can be to have a crying baby and not know what to do to help him.December 29, 2009 at 4:05 pm #65290Anonymous
InactiveNo we haven’t taken him to see a GI yet. But I think it would be a good idea too. I’m to scared to try new things so I don’t know if I will try the mylanta. Connor is so sensitive to everything. I know something will work out for him! Its so hard right now to think positive because I’m so tired, so I’m up all night with him then I work 8 hours a day. I wish I could just be at home with him and nap with him, not that he naps that great either!
