InactiveWe have been on zegerid for months now. I have never been 100% sure about how well it has worked for us, but it seemed to help some. My son is now a year and we ran out of cherry mylanta supreme which we mix with the zegerid. We couldn’t find it anywhere. So we thought, why not see if he does ok without it now? So we took him off on Sunday night. He did ok Monday, then struggled with eating on Tuesday and Wed (yesterday), which is not uncommon for him, though it seemed a little worse. But tonight/this morning he is not sleeping, which is uncommon for him. He has been up all night and he has not had problems sleeping in literally about 5 months! He seems to have a runny nose and tons of drool, so it could be teething, but again I have never seen him this way!
My question is, if it is reflux problems, could it take 3 days for him to get this bad? And if we put him back on the zegerid, will it take a while to fully kick in again since he has been off it for 3 days? I would REALLY appreciate help! Also, are there any options besides Cherry mylanta supreme for mixing? Like I said, I can’t find it anywhere all of a sudden. Thanks!May 27, 2010 at 6:51 am #66402Anonymous
InactiveI am not 100% familiar with zegerid as we used prevacid, but I know you can use tums instead of the mylanta… just not sure how much/which kind… maybe do a tums/zegerid search on here to see if there are any other posts. What is sounds like has happened is rebound acid, so he probably is in pain and it can take a few days for it to get out of his system. Most of the time when you stop a PPI you don’t do it cold turkey (I know you didn’t plan to do it this way). it took me 3 months to wean my son off prevacid to prevent any acid rebound. I would look into using tums and restart him on zegerid and then wait and try later to wean him off. HTH.. maybe another mom will help you about the tums.

InactiveHello! We tried dropping my daughter’s dose of medicine last week and by day 3 I could tell we were heading in a bad direction. Thankfully it only took about 2 days before she was happy again. 🙂
I was never able to find the Cherry Mylanta Surpreme so we use the generic CVS version. It is also aluminum free. I know many moms have had to order it online (maybe google different sites like drugstore.com and see if you can find it!) If you can’t find the Mylanta you can also mix with Tums. The Tums Quick Packs have been used frequently b/c it’s 1 quick pack per packet of zegerid…super easy…but I’ve heard several moms mentioning that they are being discontinued. Sooooo Plan C would be to crush regular tums and make your own ‘quick pack’. The quick packs contain 1000mg of calcium carbonate so I’d think you’d be ok as long as you crush that equivalent amount of reg tums.HTH! 🙂May 27, 2010 at 5:22 pm #66405Anonymous
InactiveThanks so much for the replies…very helpful! Thankfully our local walgreens was able to order the mylanta and we get it tomorrow. I had just enough in our last bottle to last us until then. I will try again in a while to wean him off and definitely go slow!
