InactiveHi! Mckenzie has finally gotten onto Neocate (after a fight with taking a bottle, then the horrid taste of the formula) and she is a different baby! But… the one thing I have noticed is she spits up a fair bit now – mostly after she burps when having a bottle but also after her bottle & even a few hours later sometimes. She has never done this before – not been a ‘spewy’ kid at all until Neocate! My pedi said I could thicken it up but at that stage she’d just started taking the Neocate and I thought I’d wait to see. so my questions are….
1. Why do they spit up more on Neocate? Isn’t breast milk just as ‘thin’?2. What can I thicken it up with? (I don’t want to use anything that will set of her MSPI again)Thanks!

InactiveTo thicken it,, ask your doctor about thick it.. Not sure about the MSPI though.. Just reading through here as my oldest son has this but no reflux.. We tried adding cereal to it but it was completely a mess. Thick it makes it thicker but a smoother texture.. Not sure if it helps at all but one thing i’ve learned this week.. Congrats on the “new baby!” I got one of those this week too!! My son gets to drink out of the bottle!! He was aspirating and passed a swallow test last week!!

InactiveThanks for your reply! Congrats on your ‘new baby’ too!
Our babies aren’t that far apart in age… Is he on regular formula or something else? Neocate has been a God-send to us! Isn’t it such a relief to see a change!?May 19, 2011 at 11:10 am #68398Anonymous
InactiveMine is on Ready to fed alemintum. He can use the powder he would cry the entire time.. We did try Neocate in the hospital but it didn’t make any difference and the alemintum we can get without a perscription. Our insurance wouldnt’ pay for it anyways so this is cheaper. There is corn in the powder formula and no in the ready to fed so we are wondering if he has trouble with that. My son had a fundalication and G button done. He was on a NG tube and G button for 4 months.. And is doing great now.. The biggest advice i have is keep pushing the doctors!! The last time my son was hospitalized i thought we were going to get kicked out cuz we kept pushing!! He was hospitalized 7 times in 4 months with pneumonia, due to aspiration from reflux..

InactiveOh wow, so glad it’s getting easier for you after all that!!! I agree, one Dr told me that I just had a difficult baby and maybe I just wasn’t coping… Great advice! When i found a pedi who specialised in allergies and took me seriously things got better. It’s awful how hard you hav to push sometimes when you know something is wrong! Drs need to listen to mothers more!
