InactiveHi there,
I’m scheduled to go back to work in September and my daughter will have to attend daycare. I am so anxious about this whole thing and keep worrying that it’ll be a total disaster.
She will be 16 months then and she is a terrible eater and hardly gains any weight. Right now I am the only person who’s able to feed her (she won’t take bottles and most solids from anyone else) and she’s a very messy/aggressive eater – throws food around and likes to play with it instead of eating (encouraged in feeding therapy). She also just started falling asleep on her own but only with me staying close to her crib – otherwise she’ll cry and vomit.
Our pedi says it could be a total disaster or she could take on the social aspect of daycare and actually start eating better.
Has anyone had experience with daycares/sitters? How did it work out for you?

InactiveI was very open and honest with daycare about our issues (which included a pulse-oximeter that they had to manage, constant screaming, feeding issues, etc.) and they agreed to work with us. (One daycare that we visited told us they weren’t comfortable with the monitor. Another said that they would work with us, but we just didn’t get a good feel from them.) She started daycare at 9 weeks old, so it was a little different. It worked out wonderfully for us. She still had a lot of issues, but they worked with us and she did well. As she got a little older, the social issue definitely helped. Good luck!

InactiveMy girl is starting daycare this week but she’s almost 12 weeks – I’m super nervous about this because she is still having quite a bit of crying. My other dd that had GERD started daycare at 5 months old and she did great there. They actually did not have a lot of the feeding issues that we had at home. She napped well there and they didn’t think she was as fussy as we did – go figure!

InactiveI know it’s so nerve wracking, but it will be ok. We started my son at a home daycare after a year of an eating disorder and I was scared to no end but he did SO well. I’m in the same boat you are with my second son (who also has an eating disorder) – I start back to work in 5 weeks and right now I’m the only one who can feed him the little that he does eat, but I’ve been through this before and I know that it’ll work out. I know it’s hard, but once my son got around other kids who actually loved to eat and the pressure of having me there all the time with him was taken off, he did so well and I’m sure your child will too!
