InactiveAlexis had the horrible stomach flu last week like the entire family. She had vomiting for a few days and diarrhea. The vomiting and actually diarrhea has resolved but lately her stools have been very funny looking. She is very irriatable and crabby, I think her 2 year molars are coming in since she has been having night wakings. She is crying with BMs which are soft light yellow almost gray and very smelly. She is also whinning when she passes gas. Could this be teething related, she has never had this type of BM for teething before, or still battling the stomach virus, or something completely different? She is also running a low grade temp which Advil is helping.

InactiveI’ll bet it’s just the virus still working it’s way out. Hope she feels better soon!

InactiveGiven that she still has fever, I’d bet it was the virus (if it continues through to next week, worsens, or you are just worried, check with the ped). I might give Tylenol instead of Advil while she is having tummy issues. Tylenol is more gentle on the GI tract. From personal experience, advil & motrin are dreadful on my stomach, & make me bleed internally (i have ulcerative colitis). So, whenever my girls have stomach bugs, I stick with Tylenol.
I would see if the doc can advise on a gas med either OTC or Levsin by prescription if it keeps up. Also try a warm compress on her tummy, massage (warm oil up by rubbing your hands together), & warm baths.
Hope her tummy feels better SOON!

InactiveThanks! I do hope it is just the stomach flu working its way out, if it is not one thing it is another with this one!
Lauren, I truly think you have become a professional! You should get your MD just by association…I’m not kidding, I had some Levsin from when she was younger and decided to just give it a try since it won’t hurt, she had it twice today and she hasn’t been as fussy she cried with her BM and when she was passing gas a few times but nothing nearly as bad as the days prior. We have an appt for the new baby tomorrow so I’m going to have the MD take a look at her as well. I also collected a stool sample just incase they want to sent it out for testing.

InactiveMy doctor told me that often a virus will leave a child’s system through lose stools or even diarrhea when it had initially cleared up. Hope she is feeling better soon!
