InactiveMy LO changed overnight! All of a suddent she developed choking/couhging regurgitation and bubble sounds when she eats. which I think is silent reflux?? Then she had bright red blood in 2 diapers again. She went from sleeping thorough the night to up every 1.5 hour. I am on TED for 9 weeks so I am SO DISCOURAGED things are going backwards!
She was never fussy, no reflux…now she is a mess…it has been 4 days and each day her fussiness is worse (but coughing/choking is reduced). She is wiggling and arching her back and randomly crying out in squeels all the time. WHAT DID I DO? I have backed off ALL the food I have added successfully to the TED 🙁
HERE IS THE QUESTION:
1.My Doctor ordered Prilosec which I will get tomorrow and told me to give her 1/4 tsp of Mylanta or maylox liquid. BUT IS THIS SAFE TO GIVE HER IF I DON’T KNOW WHAT SHE IS ALLERGIC TO??? Is there dairy or soy in it? I want to take my LO’s pain away but it seems countner productive if she is allergic to something in it.
2. Could she be reacting to something on my TED diet even though she has been tolerating everything I have added fine for WEEKS?
So so so so sad….

InactiveHi-
Okay, so let’s cover the diet first.
*Has she had stinky gas since the fussiness started? If no, then it’s not your diet so don’t panic. (if yes, then it’s something in your diet she’s reacting to)
*So she’s 4 mths old? Is she stooling normally? How often? (my ds was VERY constipated eventhough his stool was soft – we had to do testing,e tc to figure it out- so don’t let anyone tell you that either a) bf dbs can’t be constipated or b) if it’s soft, it’s not constipation. Anyway, the bright red blood makes me thing anal fissure (my 2nd ds had this too) or straining from constipation.
Okay, so did you give the Mylanta? My boys were fine w/ 1-2mL of it a couple times a day, but any more & they were very miserable. It wasn’t that they didn’t “tolerate” it (meaning, they weren’t allergic to it I don’t think) – it was moreso that it made them bloated, etc.
Okay- think that’s it for now- hang in there!!!

InactiveHi There,
So sorry you’re having a rough time. Reflux sucks! With the Maalox or Mylanta, give it at least 4 hours after the PPI. I give my daughter maalox in .3-.5ml shots. Usually after I nurse or feed her and it helps. I also use pepcid otc 1-2xs a day if needed. It can help take the edge off the transition. Same rule applies though. 4 hours after the PPI.
Good luck!
You’ve got your Prilosec now. Let us know how it goes.
