Just wanted to pass along some info I came across..carrots have nitrates, and you shouldn’t make your own b/c the baby manufacturers can test the soil they plan to grow the carrots in to make sure it has the lowest concentration of nitrates possible, if you try to make your own, theres no way of telling what level of nitrates the soil they were grown in contains……..so long story short, baby food carrots are better for the babies than homemade ones. ( just found that interesting)
I heard that once, but forgot it was carrots. Thanks for passing that along.
I usually buy the Gerber Tender Harvest carrots. They smell and taste so much better than the non-organic. Yeah, I tase all my baby’s food – I like to know what it tastes like so if they hate it I can sympathize.
Most of the root vegs have this nitrate issue. So, in the handout given by my Ped, it says not prepare Beets, trunips, carrots, spinach and collard greens at home. It also says that if we choose prepare them at home, then its better to serve them fresh and not to store them as storage of these foods may actually increase the amount of nitrates in them.
