Well Zegerid is a no go for us. I have tried everything under the sun and we are going back to the Axid. Ever since we started the Zegerid he has not wanted his bottles and not seems hungry. Then he stopped thaking it and I tried the medicine paci and after his bottle yesterday he vomited everything up. Then today he did the same thing after I gave it to him. I just do not think his little tummy can handle it and he is vomiting it up to get it out of his system. Poor guy. So I do have 15 brand new packets of the 20mg Zegerid if anyone wants to have it. I also have Prevacid packets if anyone wants these too. I just hated having to spend so much money on so many medicines and noting is working
. Just let me know if anyone wants these or not. They are both brand new. I wish you could take them back to the pharmacy and swap them out for the other medicines but we can not….I have tried. The doctor may want to try the prevacid solutabs but I just do not know what to do. He was fine on the Zantac and Axid it is just he was having to have his dose upped every two weeks so we tried the Axid and it seemed to work, but then I was given the Zegerid so we stoped the Axid. Maybe his little tummy can not handle PPI’s and only H2 blockers? Strange.
He is so tired of getting medicine that he associates it with his bottles and now will not take one. I could only get in 5.5 ounces in him all day to day. He used to take 18 ounces by this time. So sad. I just want to stop all meds but I know that he will just be in so much pain. I hope this all ends soon?

I don’t know that I have any answers for you because we have had similar problems but just thought I’d let you know that I understand your concerns!
Is your little guy eating any better now that he’s off Zegerid? I think I’d be worried sick about him only taking 5oz in a day!
Was he acting like his pain was under control when he was just on the Axid? Eating OK?
Also, if you do find that he really does need ot be on a PPI, what about trying some of the lesser known ones like Protonix, Aciphex, Nexium? (although I do not believe any of those are approved by the FDA for use with infants but I think there are a couple of people on the board here who have had good luck with one or another of them). Or maybe better yet, check with your pharmacy to see if they can order Caracream through FlavoRx and compound Prilosec with it.
My little guy has had a terribly hard time getting the Zegerid down as well and we have also had vomiting with it. Funny thing is that I was beginning to think he just doesn’t take any medication well but I tried giving him some probiotics over this last week. He actually smiled at me and took it right down. I was so surprised! He obviously likes the taste. I think for him it is totally a taste issue and he definitely hates the taste of Zegerid.
I also know how you feel putting out money for medicines and then having them not work so you can’t use them. I have almost a full months worth of solutabs in my cupboard and have wondered whether that would end up happening with the Zegerid as well. I just tossed the bottle of Zantac the other day as he never would take it (I ended up crushing the pills and mixing in a bit of liquid to get him to take it instead).
For us though, I have at least seen an improvement on the Zegerid so I hate to give up on it! For the last few days at least I’ve figured out a way that I can get him to take it that he hasn’t been throwing it up but a few days ago I was totally disparing about being able to get it down him. I don’t know if it will last or not but we’ll see.

He is now on the prevacid solutabs and they are so much easier to give
. I just put it in his mouth and they dissolve and he loves them. He is now back taken his bottles and solids and is doing great! I think that the solutabs are going to be the trick with him. Thanks for all of the info you have given me. This site is great!
