InactiveI need to boost Noah’s calories. Our nutritionist told us I could use either duocal or polycose, but didnt really give me any advise on how much to give. Is anyone else using either of these, and if so, how much do you add to solids and liquids?

InactiveHi again!
We are using Duocal. For the formula…. the GI told us to make it to 30cal per ounce. I think we just make it a little bit under that. I add about 6 grams of duocal, which is around 30cacl (a packed scoop of formula, the regular one..) per 3 ounces approximately of formula.
We add olive oil to the meats and veggies and then we add about 1/2 scoop or maybe 3 grams or 20cal per fruit jars (the 2.5 ounces ones).
Hope this helps. Noah is 1 and should be able to tolerate the formula at 30cal per ounce…. no magic calories for anything else as long as he is taking sufficient liquid i guess
hope this helps

InactiveThais,
How much olive oil do you typically add? I add about 1 tsp of butter per 2.5 oz of solids. I worry that I am adding to many calories to the minimal amount of food that he eats. I already make the formula 30 cal per oz, but we do it using soley formula plus what little breast milk he still gets. The nutritionists that I have talked to have been practically worthless when it comes to giving me any good info on how much I can add to his food.

InactiveWe have tried the polycose. I just played around with how much to add since no one was very helpful. Now that Hailey won’t be spoon fed at all there’s nothing to add it to. Our formula is already 30 cal/oz.

On the formula… my GI here said to make it to 30cal either with formula or with the duocal, but in spain they do not recommend increasing the formula, so i add duocal only and make the regular concentration of formula. I guess that it depends on how much formula Noah is taking… ie if he is taking at least 16ounces per day, then no need to increase the formula concentration but if not, then keep using the formula to increase cals?? Just a thought.
OK… i make my own baby food… usually meat or chicken – i get around 100g of meat, a couple of the small potatoes and some carrots and now peas from jars. I fry the meat in olive oil… maybe 1 tbs? Then i add that oil to the grinder and then add another 15cc maybe?
Sorry i know people are not helpful at all…

InactiveThais,
Thanks for the info. I have thinking about making my own baby food to see if Noah might prefer the taste. I bought a grinder food mills that you hand turn. It doesnt seem to puree food enough though. Noah doesnt like a lot of texture. How do you grinde Matthew’s food?
