InactiveOK, so DS started Zegerid at ~9mos (he was on Prevacid and Zantac before that), and I’m just now done with weaning him at 14.5 months). He’s done TERRIFIC in the weaning process. But there’s something that just makes no sense to me at all.
Since we cut back to 1 dose every other day, Nate’s been sleeping so much better at night. For example, last night he went 11+ hours, with only one brief arousal at 5:15a this morning.

Also, I suspected that his constipation would subside once off the meds, since it got notably worse when we started the Zegerid, but I am amazed at how it just went away once we cut back to 1 dose a day. Nothing else in his diet has changed to warrant the improvement.
But it’s the sleep thing that really has me scratching my head.

InactiveTyler could never tolerate high doses of losec at night, I think it causes stomach cramps in some babies. If we were to give him a higher dose we would have to give it at 3-4pm or it would always interfere with his sleep at night. So I can understand that sleeping could get better after weaning off the meds.

InactiveI think that this is just yet another example of how every baby is so different. I’ve definitely heard of PPIs causing problems like that, so it makes sense. Yet, then there are other babies, like Kaelyn, that need a higher dose at night because the reflux keeps them up at night. It really is such a puzzle.

InactiveI think that Marsha (lansima) posted a while back about this same thing with her son and others- the night dose of PPI interfering with sleep.
Sharon, I hope you don’t mind me asking but I noticed in your signature that they suspect that Nate may have autism (PDD). Would you mind sharing some more info with me about this? I understand if you’d rather not. I’m asking because my ped has mentioned that he’s concerned that Hailey may have autism. He has mentioned this several times. He is worried because she is VERY intense, and seems to have no self soothing abilities when she gets worked up, she’s scared of almost all social situations especially outside of the house and involving strangers and she has sensory issues with textures and feeding problems. I guess my question is what made them suspect this with Nate? If you’d rather, you can email me.
