Hi, and welcome
Did he have any other symptoms besides spitting up or vomiting that lead to the Upper GI test being done?
If he is bothered by painful reflux you would likely see fitfull or poor sleep, fussiness while feeding or bottle refusal, and irritablilty after feeds. If you begin to see any of these signs then, yes I would ask the doctor for some medication, preferably a PPI (Prevacid or Zegerid) as they tend to work better than Zantac for most babies. Also, babies with reflux often have a very acidic smell to their spit up and some experience pain with burping.
Both of my children who had reflux did not show severe symptoms until after 8 weeks of age, and the onset was gradual. First I noticed prolonged feedings and irritabiltiy after eating, then waking alot in pain during sleep, then bottle refusal.
There can be longterm effects of acid burning the esophagus, so you are right to be concerned. If you see his feedings becoming more difficult or that he is uncomfortable and irritable you should probably call his doctor.
Glad you found us!
