Inactivehi!
my little one’s reflux is doing much better but our situation now is that due to the nice weather we would like to go on family outings and find it extremely difficult due to the baby carrier. It seems to make him so sick – even a car ride of 1/2 hour is about the limit (we took him to a party an hour away and he was sick all night and through the party also screamed through most of the ride). our gi said infant carriers were very bad for gerd due to the position of the stomach – it pushes acid up. (ironic for those who have been told to keep their babies in the carrier because it is an upright position) anyway – any suggestions on how to make it easier on him would be very appreciated!!!

InactiveHow old is he now? Is he ready to switch to a convertible car seat? We switched Kaelyn at about 5 months and it made a big difference for her. Sorry, I don’t have any suggestions on how to make the infant carrier any more tolerable.

InactiveThe convertible seats are much better for reflux. We were able to make
the infant carrier more tolerable for Marisa by putting a folded
washcloth beneath her tush to prop her up some and another behind her
lower back – to stretch her out as much as possible and keep her from
slouching/slumping.June 4, 2006 at 8:17 am #9076Anonymous
InactiveI switched Michael to a 5-40 lbs carseat at about 4 months. He was miserable in his car carrier, especially since the angle wasn’t quite right. He was much happier in the carseat that he was sitting up more. I used a noodle underneath to get him at the correct angle. I suggest going to the police station or fire department and getting some help from a certified car seat specialist. They really helped me out with Michaels carseat! Good luck and I hope your little one feels better soon!

Inactivemelissa,
how did you use the noodle? was it under the car seat or in the car seat?

Inactivethe fireman cut the noodle to the width of the carseat and then placed it underneath the car seat against the back of the seat. Then they adjusted the angle of the carseat (ours is adjustable by a lever to change the angle of the back for forward verses backward facing) to put it at the correct angle for safety, it made a huge difference. His head was flopping around and he was just more content in the car in general. Before he would cry antime we would try to put him in. Now he wants to go for rides all the time!
