Hi!

I have a 7 week old baby boy. This is my second MSPI/reflux baby. I used this site alot with my first son. I have a quick question. Today while Tucker was nursing, milk was streaming out of his nose. We were laying down, which is how I like to nurse b/c it helps slow down my letdown.

Anyway, is this “normal” for a reflux baby to have milk coming out of his nose while nursing? It was very strange.

Thanks for any input that you may have….

Hailey has milk come out of her nose whenever she has a bad reflux attack. When she was smaller, especially between a month and 8 weeks, she would choke and sputter a lot while feeding and milk would come out of her nose. It used to make her (and me) very upset. I don’t know what causes it. s&h’s mum2006-6-18 15:47:56

Hailey used to shoot formula out of her nose quite frequently from birth to about age 3 months. We didn’t even feed her unless we had a nasal aspirator handy. She grew out of it and I’m not really sure why it happens either.

Maybe you should have a swallow study done on him?

Yes I am going to mention it at his 2 month appt. He def. has a weird suck swallow rhythm. I blame it on my letdown, but i’m not so sure thats it. He swallows alot of air.

my friend just had a baby & she’s nursing and her baby swallows a lot of air- turns out he’s ‘tongue-tied’ – there’s a proper way to call that, lol!

I also used to blame it on my letdown, but it turns out that an overactive letdown was not the whole problem after all. Good luck to you.
