InactiveI’m hoping to get some feedback from those of you who may have done an elimination diet or have babies on Neocate.
Isaac has slient reflux…. has had on and off green, mucousy poops, and more recently has been testing positive for blood in his stools.
I elminated soy/dairy almost 2 months ago… and really eliminated it. I am an avid label reader, rarely eat processed or packaged foods, and stopped eating out. Things were not getting better. Then his stools started testing positive for blood. His ped is pushing us to put him on Neocate. I started the Dr. Sears elimination diet on Sunday (so am eating only turkey- uh!- I hadn’t eaten meat in 16 years until, potato, green/yellow squash and pear). At his appt. on Wed, we agreed with his ped that if this did not work in 10 days, we would try the Neocate. His ped has tried to be very supportive of breastfeeding, but I think he now thinks I”m crazy. Anyways- he said on WEd. that I would need to be prepared that if this works, I would need to stay on this diet for at least a couple of months so Isaac’s digestive system could heal. He said that the Neocate allows his digestive system to completely rest and heal up.
What I’m wondering from others, is : 1. Has anyone had success getting rid of blood in stool from food elimination? Beyond soy and dairy? 2. Were you able to add other food back in and when? 3. Were you able to prevent going on formula?
I do not want Isaac to have to go on formula if I can at all prevent it, but I don’t know if I can do this diet for months…
I read all of the links from Laura’s intro… which was very helpful… but I’m wondering if there is any current people that have more feedback.
THANKS!!!!

KeymasterRobyn,
you really should post over at the yahoobreastfeedingreflux site
also, you might want to give the elimination diet at least 2wks…
and, it might even be the rice…erg…
so maybe continue w/ what you’ve been eating and try cutting out rice, gluten, wheat for 2wks & see if that helps? then try the elimination diet?
you *might* have to go to neocate- you can ask for an endoscopy to check for EOS cells – if they are presnet after 2 months of no dairy or soy proteins, it is significant…
again, pleasepost over on the yahoo group, as well as reading through all of the info via the mspi link (there’s a section about the elimination diet, etc), from my welcome/intro…
