InactiveI thought that since Aiyana is a year that I could start giving her the baby food with tomatos and onion powder..WRONG! She has been gulping again, and doing it in her sleep
. So much for GER being gone at age 1. And although they said it was caused by a milk allergy, I have come to accept the fact that it’s not caused by it but perhaps aggravated by it, and other foods. So that being the case, what the heck is the cause of the reflux disease itself??!?!? It’s not the emptying factor because the stomach matures by age 1 so what the heck is the cause?
When will it be GONE?I have started her on rice milk though the NP wasn’t too thrilled, and doesn’t want to use that as a “long term option”. But if she can’t handle tomatos or onion powder how the heck is she supposed to be able to handle milk!?!?

InactiveI understand your frustration. I wish I had some advice for you but I can offer understanding. Actually my ped GI thinks Emma has an emptying problem still at almost 16 months. She has been really gassy and bloated her whole life and we just assumed it would get better by age. Well since it hasn’t (it is still just as bad) she believes her stomach is still not matured yet but we are electing no meds. I don’t really think there is a good age for them to “outgrow” any of these problems. I think that is the most frustrating part of this whole deal. My ped GI says the clinic she is at see’s so many kids with these issues not grow out of them until around 3 years. Of course there are always those that do before that age but I have come to the realization that she may not. Hang in there!!!!

InactiveWe decided not to give her anything b/c we didn’t like the side effects..she had been prescribed Reglan, and Zantac. She does well with me on the elimination diet. It basically seems like trail and error with what we both eat.
We just want it to end, it really sux. The funny thing is whenever it seems like her reflux is gone it rears its ugly head again.

Keymasterat a year, if she has teeth, you can give her tums. jonah still gets them occasionally. he thinks it’s candy. if she doesn’t have teeth you can always give mylanta cherry supreme.
sorry you feel that way about the meds. zantac and PPIs are actually very mild on the system…reglan, well that’s different…
as for out growing it, 18months might be the magic age or 2yrs or 3

& for the rice milk- they make an enriched rice milk and you can add flax seed oil to it. avocado is also another ‘good’ fat. you might want to ask about avocado oil at the health food supermarket…
