InactiveCurrently I am giving Marshall 15mg at 10:00 a.m. and 15mg at 5:00 p.m. He sometimes is hungry in the evening and can not wait and sometimes wants a snack and the meds have to be given on an empty stomach so I am wondering if anyone has had success on giving one dosage in the a.m. Please let me know or if you would give me some suggestions that you may have for me, when you give your little ones theres. He also has his last bottle at 6:30 p.m. and does not eat until morning so I was wondering if that makes a difference since he is not getting any feeds during the night. Can reflux happen at night even if they do not eat? If you give it in the morning before there bottle, how are you able to hold them off for 30 minutes?

InactiveOnce per day probably won’t be adequate. It is hard timing the prevacid with feedings. I was so darn frustrated with it for a long time but as they get older it gets a little easier because they are on more of a predictable schedule.
Instead of trying once per day dosing, I’d just “cheat” a little when you have to. If he’s screaming to eat maybe see if he can wait 15 – 20 minutes instead of the full 30. He’ll still get some benefit from the medication, probably just not the maximum effect.
If he generally wakes at the same time each day, you could try what I did with Myles. I’d sneak into his room and give him his prevacid 1/2 hour before he normally wakes up. He’d wake up a little but I’d give him his nuk and he’d drift back off to sleep and then I’d wake him 1/2 hr later and feed him. I still do this but he’s older now and can wait if I just keep him busy.
The way you’re doing it giving it to him at 10:00 am seems fine, though. Do you wait two hrs after his first feeding?

InactiveHe wakes at 6:30 a.m. and eats then he gets a fruit at 7:30 and then I give the prevacid at 10:00 30 minutes before his 2nd bottle at 10:30 a.m. He gets a third bottle around 2:30 then I give him his second dose at 5:00, after his late catnap, and feed him his solids at 5:30 and bottle at 6:30. But what do I do when he wants to start eating snacks…like yogurt, those teething biscuits, cheerios….when he gets older? How do you time the prevacid then??? It seems to always be something.

InactiveHe will get some of the medicine even if he eats. He will just get a smaller dose as all of the medicine will not be effective. I think Laura is right and you just need to do it without worring when he eats. If you notice that at night he is refluxing then maybe your doctor would consider changing meds to zegerid. I think at this point if you have been giving it without worring about the food then its fine to keep doing it that way. You can only do so much.

InactiveIt’s tricky but the way I’ve been doing it with Myles is to not feed him anything after 5 pm so he can have his last dose at 7 pm and his last bottle at 7:30 pm. I do sometimes wonder if he’s hungry at all between 5pm and 7:30pm but it seems to be working for now.
Myles seems to be outgrowing his reflux now at 9 months and is just starting to eat more solids and trying some finger foods. Maybe that will happen with your little guy, too. For now it seems like your schedule is working really well.
