InactiveHi everyone
I have learned so much on this website….thank you all. I have read that Pepcid can stop working within two weeks…..but can the symptoms then get worse????
Jadon was perscribed Pepcid .37 2x a day and if at the end of the first week, if there was room for improvement, we could up it to 3x a day. Which of course we needed to do. We are also doing 1 tbs of rice to 2 oz of Nutramigen. We were sooooo happy cause he was like differnt baby….he got on an eating and sleeping schedule…it was amamzing.
Now like clockwork…2 weeks to the day we started Pepcid…..he is right back to where we started, altho to me it seems like he is worse….he is constntly spitting up…where as before he only spit up occasionally. He is constntly screaming and spitting formula thru his nose. My regular pediatrician is concerned about him getting an upper respiratory infection or pnuemonia. Since Friday night he is only eating half of what he would normally eat in a day. I cant believe this is happening. I have a call in to the doctor…but we all know how that goes……Ive been waiting for a call back all day.
Has anyone gone thru this or does it seem off the wall…..how could things go this bad this quick?? Can symptoms get worse if not treated properly….the pepcid was doing so good at first??
Help!!! Any advice would help
Thanks

Keymasterwhat are you thickening with?
maybe it’s the rice? what brand is it? Gerber’s has milk and or soy proteins. Beechnut does not.
no medicine will stop the spit-up.
I’d see a ped GI…

Keymasterfor the prilosec, please go to my welcome/intro, look for ‘Prevacid 101’ (there’s prilosec info there, too) and from there look for HOW to ask for the Prilosec to be compounded. also, look for WHAT DOSE to ask for…

ps:
ps: can you put more info in your signature?
meds & doses (mgs), formula and thickening…thanks!
it’s so hard to keep track of all these GERDlings

InactiveAnother ppi drug that doesn’t need the special compounding, etc. is called zegerid. It’s expensive, so you’d want to know that your insurance covers it, but ask your doc about it. I would also look into getting in with a ped gi….they know a lot about all this.
Also, it’s very common to plateau on pepcid nad zantac. You want a ppi drug to be in the mix before you end up with the respiratory infections that the doc is talking about. Laura’s intro is a WEALTH of info and worth searching through even though it’s long.
