Hi! I am experimenting with Alimentum to see if my dd possibly has MSPI. What is the difference between Alimentum/Nutramigen and a Lactose-free formula? Is it possible that she doesn’t need the alimentum and would do fine on a lactose free?

I am going to continue the alimentum for another 2 weeks to give it time…I just wondered when/if a lactose free formula is ever a good option.

Thanks!
Amy

it’s pretty rare for babies to be lactose intolerant. i don’t know if that’s what lacto-free is marketing towards?…there are some lactose intolerant babies, for sure, but it’s pretty rare…mspi & milk/soy allergies (& other protein intolernaces) have to do with proteins and not lactose per se…

alimentum and nutrimagen are for MSPI or allergies. they have tiny broken down milk proteins that most babies tolerate well.

like laura said it is extremely rare for an infant to have a lactose intolerance.

if you notice she is still having sypmtoms on the alimentum you may
need neocate-which has NO milk protein in it and it is amino acid based.
