InactiveI finally talked to the pedi gi last night. She suggested this:
22.5 mg prevacid in the am. No more at night. She thinks I am having too much trouble giving it to them at night on an empty stomach (which I am).
Mylanta before bed, with a cereal bottle.
Stop feeding in the middle of the night (that will be the hardest).
She thinks they will pick it up during the day. I am really nervous about so much prevacid all at once, and then not having anything overnight.

InactiveI also would be scared of no meds before bed. Mylanta could cause dirrhea and the cereal might cause a tummy ache too. I can’t remember when we dropped the nighttime bottle but I think Colton was a little older than your boys. That is just so much changing at once. Maybe you could just do a couple of things at once instead of all that. I am sorry I am not help but I just know that is so much change. Good luck.

Inactivemost people do not have good luck with just one dose. babies metabolize
these meds 2-3 times quicker than adults thus needing the med
adminstered throughout the day.maybe you can show your doc the marci-kids.com site.
honestly i would NOT give just one dose.

InactiveWould she consider a switch to Zegerid which can be given with or without food?
I doubt once per day dosing will be enough for them.

InactiveI am so confused about what to do. I want to listen to the doc, but then I hear what all of you say. I know I can always just try it and see, seeing as nothing seems to be working right now.

Inactivei understand what you mean. just keep in mind however that a lot of
these doctors dont know how to effectively treat reflux. they dont sit
down and research every day like we do. a lot of them are not up to
date on the latest advances. many of them dont realize babies need
higher doses AND that they metabolize them much quicker than adults.
that is why so many of us have to fax our doctors marci-kids.com

InactiveI understand what you mean, too. I was flabbergasted when Joel emailed
me and told me my little guy needed 30 mg of Prevacid a day. I almost
feel off my chair. He was only on 7.5 mg a day. I love his doctor and I
couldn’t believe she didn’t know how to treat this common and maddening
condition. I just couldn’t stand to see my son suffer anymore so I
pestered her until she finally conceded and I’m glad I did. He made a
complete turnaround on the higher dose and I was so happy and thankful
for this site and for marci-kids.I hope you can convince your babies’ doctor. Don’t give up. The higher dose really makes a big difference.

Keymasterwhen you say night, do you mean evening time like 4-6pm or later? maybe try the second dose like b/t 4-6pm…if you have any zantac around, I’d give that at ‘night’ (8pm and after)…
