Inactivedo you think size 3 nipple can make reflux worse, since it is so fast?
What formula do you prefer for reflux>?

InactiveWe have been using the size 1 nipple for the Dr. Brown bottles and I tried using a size 2 and it just seemed to pour out and she was choking so we went back down to #1, she will me 5 months next week. Right now were using Nutramigen but were switching to Neocate. She is still crying during feedings. I (and Dr. Phillips at Marci-Kids) think her Prevacid dose is too low but none of her doctors(Gi or pedi) will increase it so I am trying this first. If this doesn’t help I am demanding they increase it.

InactiveMyles could never handle a fast nipple and I think if he drank too much
too fast it did aggarvate his reflux and he would be more likely throw
it up than if he drank more slowly.I’m not sure which formula is best. If your baby has no MSPI issues
than refular formula should be fine. Some say the AR helps, or
thickening with cereal helps, but that’s somewhat controversial.August 29, 2006 at 1:12 pm #12557Anonymous
Inactivei just found this interesting article about ar lipil-i did not know this!!
“There is a formula that tries to address issues surrounding reflux
called Enfamil AR. It has rice starch that curdles when it hits the low
pH of the stomach making it less likely for reflux to occur. However,
if your child is on Zantac, then the stomach pH isn’t low, so the
Enfamil AR won’t work.”(i am assuming they are talking about all the acid reducers not just zantac)

InactiveOne thing that we were told a while back is that babies with feeding difficulties should not use very fast nipples (sorry cannot remember if they have feeding difficulties). They said that they learn to position their tongue so that they make the flow slower and then it is harder to get them to eat solids etc ebcause of the position of the tongue when they eat (we were trying a faster nipple because Matthew seemed to always max after 5min of feeding and they said NO NO) but i have no idea about reflux

Inactivethat is really interesting about the faster nipple causing eating problems with solids. I tried them today and the boys did really well. But I have to keep that in mind.
