InactiveI increased Justice’s meds when he started not sleeping so well. I then talked to Dr. Phillips who had me increase it another ml. I am now thinking about decreasing it at least a ml. The increase had never helped, but then again I don’t think what is going on has anything to do with reflux. I think and hope it all has to do with teething. Any suggestions? By the way, I don’t think decreasing it will make him sleep better, I just don’t want to be giving more than I need to. Also, the increase costs more. I will keep him on that dose if needed and not worry about the money, but if he doesn’t need to be on that dose then I’d rather him not be.

InactiveHow much is he on now? Teething makes reflux so much worse so maybe until he is over it you can keep him on that dosage. We didn’t decrease Colt’s until he a big part of his teeth in. But then again if you don’t notice anything with that 1ml. it probably isn’t enough to cause problems to drop it. I think if you did a trial of lowering it you should be able to see if its hurting him or not.
On another topic: Colt is 18 months old now and he has never slept good. At each milestone I thought it will happen but it didn’t. Some babies just don’t sleep good. It is finally getting better for us but we have had a lot of sleepless nights. Im not trying to get you down but to prepare you that you might just have one of those babies who isn’t going to be a good sleeper. I know 18 months is a long time to say to wait and then it gets better but think about it. Most 4 year olds sleep thru the night.

InactiveOh what a cutie Justice is!!! And I love his name! How do you get that picture in here?
I’m not sure what I would do about the meds. How long has he been on the increased dose? I’m assuming long enough to give it a chance to help. Have you started giving him cereal? I wouldn’t really know since my son didn’t seem to be into solids until about 8 months but he did sleep really good until 1- he started teething and 2- he started solids…

Inactiveyeah. he may just be a poor spleeper right now and not necessarily having to do with reflux. whats his dose?

Inactivewell, you could always decrease it and see what happens, if he gets worse, you can up it again . I did that when I (stupidly btw) decided Aidan’s reflux was almost gone at 4 months. I’m almost envious that he’s teething!!!!! I’m convinced Aidan will be gumming his food forever, no teeth, no sign of them. As for the sleeping, my oldest was a horrible sleeper to the point that I finally (being very sleep deprived) began driving him around at night to get him to fall asleep. But like Kathleen said, most 4 year olds sleep through the night, Austin is 6 now and sleeps great! Before Aidan goes to sleep I always g ive him a dose of Mylicon…not sure if it helps him sleep better but I figured that it can’t hurt and no one needs xtra gas when they’re sleeping!!! (Aidan still wakes up at least 2 times, and cries for about 5 mins each time, then at 4 he really lets loose and wants a bottle, which he technically doesn’t need!!)

InactiveJustice is on 5 ml 3x a day, but I think I am going to decrease it to 4 ml 3 x a day. He has been on the increase for at least a month, but maybe even 2 months. It is all so confusing. He used to sleep so well. He would sleep a good 7 to 8 hr stretch and wake up to eat and sleep at least another 2 or 3 hrs after that. Oh and he would take 2 or 3 naps. All at least 1 hr each. Now he sleeps for a 4 to 5 hr stretch and that is it. No naps and no more sleeping after the 4 to 5 hrs. so basically he is getting 4 to 5 hrs of sleep all together in a 24 hr period. It just doesn’t seem normal to me.
As far as his picture being on here. I think if you click on it it will take you to the place where you can create a ticker. From there you click on browse and it will take you to all photos saved on your computer and you can pick which one you want.

Keymasterthere was a mom who breastfed & noticed increased night wakings and decided to try to figure out if it was something in her diet- she found it was mspi and for her, the only mspi ‘symptom’ was night waking- her name is lovemysophia in case you feel like finding out what she said…so maybe it’s built up milk and/or soy proteins? it’s a miserable pain in the butt to do the elimination diet, but maybe you might find there’s something you’re eating? you might just find out that it’s NOTHING having to do w/ what you’re eating
, too…it’s all so hard

Inactivehow many mg is that? are you making the 4mg/ml concentration?
Trace is on 42 mg of zegerid as of tonight-the highest recommended dose from marci-kids.com
September 18, 2006 at 8:31 pm #13896Anonymous
InactiveI think 5 ml is about 42 mg. Not sure. I mix 13ml of water with 2 40mg packets.
Thanks Laura. I will look into that. I have been avoiding the elimination diet, but might just have to do it. I already don’t do milk or soy. Actually I don’t do anything cow. We are both allergic to beef. Sadly I have never eliminated hidden. He did great with what I was doing for about a month or so and then started doing the no sleep thing. I really feel like it’s teeth, but 2 months of this seems a little long for it to be teeth. Not sure if it’s been exactly 2 months yet, but it feels like forever.

InactiveHey Natalie. Do you give mylanta with the zegerid? I was giving the mylanta until I started giving 5 ml of zegerid. I don’t know if that would even make a difference. I am going to try again tonight. What do you do for Trace? Where do you live by the way?
September 18, 2006 at 8:43 pm #13898Anonymous
Inactivethen you are making a 4mg/ML concentration like us. SO, 42 mg is 3.5 ML 3 times per day. if you are giving 5 ML 3 times that is way too much!! maybe its supposed to be 5 ML 2 times?
unless you are including the mylanta in the 5 ML?
what we are doing is already the highest marci-kids.com dose.

InactiveThe marci-kids dosing cal. says Justice should be getting at least 7 ml 3x a day. I could be wrong about that. If I remember correctly though Trace is a lot smaller than Justice. Justice is 17lb if not more at this point. Who knows. Tonight I tryed a few things that I used to do. I gave him 2 ml of mylanta along with 4 ml of Zegerid instead of 5 ml. I also sat downstairs and fed him. I usually take him upstairs with the white noise on and feed him. I think he may be falling asleep too quickly. I am also trying to not swaddle him anymore. It is getting really hard to swaddle a 17lb baby. I hope one of these things will help him to sleep better. I am of course expecting him to wake after 4 to 5 hrs and not go back to sleep.
How much does Trace sleep?September 19, 2006 at 8:05 am #13908Anonymous
InactiveWell, none of the things I tryed worked. I did find out that he sleeps just the same not swaddled. So, no more swaddeling for Justice. YEAH!!!!!!!!! I have requested the books from the library that hellbent/Laura suggested. If none of the things work and I don’t see teeth within a month and that help. I am either going to do the elimination diet or cio. I will probably do the diet first. I am really not ready for him to cio. I know my husband will not be happy with me trying the diet. He was upset when I took dairy out. We will see.

Keymastershelby,
the diet is *only* 2 weeks, 3 weeks tops…then you start adding things in…
maybe it’s the ‘hidden stuff’- since you’re already not eating milk & soy then you could start there?

InactiveI guess with not getting sleep it just seems like a lot to do. Especially if it’s not the problem. Of cousre if it is the problem, I could be getting sleep again. Is there some place on the net. that I can get recipes and snack suggestions? I remember seeing something at one point. Thank you Laura. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you. By the way, I did try baby carrying. My first loved the sling, but Justice doesn’t like it. I have tryed many different types of carriers, but he doesn’t like any of them. It’s very confusing to me since my first loved it so much. Luke’s few happy times were in the sling.
