InactiveHi All,
3:00am here…. I just started our 2 year old/allergic to the world (can only eat beef, rice, potatos) toddler on previcid (not the solutabs). He is much worse than he was before… it will be six days tomorrow and he is having a harder time with reflux than before. The same thing happened with axcid and zantac…
Has anyone seen this? Any ideas what conditions there may be that reflux meds don’t work for or actually make worse?
Also, we have an endoscopy scheduled for this Friday – I am loathing the event… has it been worth it for other parents in this group? Anything to watch out for?
Thanks so much,
Tisha

Keymastermy guess is that the prevacid hasn’t ‘kicked in’ yet so it’s as if he isn’t on any meds at all…if you have some zantac and/or mylabta to help during this ‘waiting time’ they could help…
welcome

InactiveWe had stopped prevacid for a while and tried Dylan back on it as a 2 year old as well. He was significantly worse, and I am not sure why. I think it was some of the added ingredients in the med (we had tried the solutabs and the packets). He had huge success on the packets as an infant, but as a toddler, they made him crazy. Flipping our winged back chairs, throwing chairs at daycare, extremely irritable and fussy, etc…. Clearly worse on the med than off, so we stopped and did mylanta to carry us through. At that point, his reflux was not nearly as bad as it was when he was smaller.
If you think he is better off than on, I would take him off until after the tests…..
Good luck and welcome to the site!!

Inactivewhen my daughter had her endoscopy, she also had a ph probe done, but the results from these 2 tests made all the difference in the world in her treatment.

InactiveWelcome
I have actually heard someone else say that about Prevacid – can be whatever they add to it for flavoring? I guess in that case maybe using teh capsules, and opening them on some applesauce may be the way to go?
Also, when we started Matthew on prevacid it was just awful – he was cranky, gassy and we are pretty sure he had cramps. I remember posting here about it and almost giving up on the prevacid but we decided to wait and the symptoms faded…. if your son has a delicate digestive system he may be having the same reaction as Matthew but maybe he is more uncomfortable in general and that is making his reflux worse.
The endo is really worth it – it is really easy, you will have a ton of answers hopefully and they will probably take some biopsies regardless of what they see, given all his allergies.
